If you're registered to vote in Virginia, you are NOT registered by any political affiliation, meaning you can vote in any of the two primaries being held today.

Virginia doesn't register by party. Ever.

If you're in DC or Maryland, then no, you can't vote unless you are registered in either of the parties holding their primaries today.

Really??

well hell. When did that change? Because I know for a fact that when I originally registered about 1000 years ago, and when I originally re-registered in virginia back in 96, it asked for affiliation and I marked independant.

*toddles off to figure out where she can vote then*

Dunno -- not sure why you would have been asked to provide affiliation. For as long as I've been voting (since 1982) Virginia has never registered voters by party affiliation.

Some places have open Primaries where you can register a party affiliation, but you are allowed to vote for a different primary candidate.
