Throughout this community, I'm sure to make countless references to my "top" films of a particular year, era, director, actor, etc. I'll do this because, by our very nature, people love to make lists. This probably results from some subconscious need to display our tastes and preferences, perhaps in search of validation or reassurance. I'm guessing ( Read more... )

I find it extremely difficult to do a top 5er list without being somewhat subjective. Like you said, Brokeback is a great acheivement in filmaking for a number of reasons, but it didn't come close to my top 5 last year because i was just not entirely interested. Anyway, I think this community is a great idea, and i'll probably bug the shit out of you with comments, complaints, and hithertoos.

PS. Just saw Manhattan in the cinema yesterday. Fucking amazing movie, although I find Woody's constant interest in extremely young women somewhat disturbing.

You know something? I'm beginning to change my opinion a little bit. I mean, when I think about my "top" movies of all time or something, I am thinking about my favorites.

And, yeah, I suppose they do coincide - because to me, they were the best.

Upon further review I'll probably retract my above statements in a future post, but we'll see how that goes.

Oh and agreed on the Woody point. It's too bad Scoop was received so poorly.
