Anybody else have the day off?

Happy holidays to those of you who have the day off! (Like me.) I spent the night over at the 'rent's place, which was nice, but now I'm home alone since I managed not to get rangled into the bbq tonite at my brother's girlfriend's house. Yay! Last night we watched the newest "Harold and Kumar" movie, *LOL*, and I watched "Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon" when everybody else had gone to bed. Interesting movie. Kind of a slasher spoof, but not in a ha-ha funny sort of way, if you know what I mean. Horror/slasher fans on my FList can consider it recommended. Unfortunately I spent the late night/early morning puking my guts out. Not sure why, probably too much heat (the weather is gorgeous today though) and sun, but I still don't feel right. Seems to happen everytime I have a long weekend! Oh well, such is life, no big deal. I'm getting paid to not be at work today, so I guess I can just take it easy and enjoy the free cash. (That thought makes me feel better, *LOL*)

And, for those of you who are interested, here's the August recommended reading list:

As always, the bolded ones are the best of the bunch:

"Fool Moon: Book Two of the Dresden Files" by Jim Butcher - Like the title sasy, this is the second book of the Dresden Files, the series about the other wizard named Harry. For those of you who don't know the series, Harry Dresden is a wizard for hire in a world that doesn't really believe in magic (even though it should, since the supernatrual seems to be out to get everyone in every book) and he occasionaly works for the police solving crimes that they don't understand. You know, werewolves, vampires, evil wizards... the usual. The series is done in first person, and Harry's voice is mostly charming, though I liked him more in this book than the first one. This time out, Harry's got to help the police stop a werewolve who's been eating people left and right, all the while trying to earn back the trust of his police boss/friend Karin who's convinced he might not be on the up and up, and help an innocent (mostly) werewolf stay alive and keep from eating anyone by accident. It's a mostly action-y book, with a good story, and I think it was better than the first book by far. The series is worth a try for those of you that like wizard-y stuff and/or action with a supernatrual lean.

"Out There in the Night" by Laura Baumbach - I think August had a theme, at least for me, since the other book that I read this month (my birth month, btw) was also about werewolves. This one was your typical slash romance with a furry twist. No real plot aside from the whole getting together romance stuff. Basically, you have sex with a werewolf and survive you become one yourself, and there's a hot native Alaskian warrior who's the alpha of his pack and is looking for his destened mate. It wasn't a bad book, the sex was decently written, and the characters were really likable, but it did get a bit sappy at times. One thing I need to warn you guys about though, is that some of the scenes were borderline beastality. Seriously, I don't squick easily, but some of this book made me a bit uncomfortable. Just an FYI, for anyone who might pick this one up.
