Feeling a bit better today, even if I didn't sleep too well last night. For the first time ever I woke myself up, screaming, and then puked my guts out until my throat was raw when I remembered why I was screaming/what I'd been dreaming about. Sucked. But, aside from being tired, my spider bite is mostly well, the swelling has gone down and it doesn't itch as much, plus the fever was doing fine until I started my cycle and I got the fever/aches that usually goes with that. TMI, I know, but it's the unfortunate truth. The wrist I have wrapped, but I have full range of motion and the bruise isn't too bad. I have tomorrow off, so I've got a bit more time to recover, so all should be well. Thanks to all of you who've wished me well. I'm sure that the good vibes helped.
I went to visit the parents for a bit, but I started to feel ill so I headed home and sat down in front of the computer to watch an "Oz" marathon. I'd forgotten how much I absolutely loved that show. It was all sorts of awesome! I was such a Keller/Beacher fangirl back when it was originally on HBO. I never did get to see the final season, don't ask me how or why I've waited so long to catch up, but I already know how it ends so I guess I was just avoiding the inevitable. I got caught up on S5 today, so I should finish it up soon. Depending on how I feel tomorrow I might tackle some of it. Did anybody else on my FList ever watch "Oz"? You guys usually share my tastes in tv, so I wonder who's seen it?
Last but not least, before I crash for the night, here's my June reccomended reading list, complete with summaries. Take a look if you're looking for something new to read.
As usual, bolded titles are the good ones:
"Need" by Sean Michael - Don't bother. This book was pointless (vampire pun intended) in so many ways. There was no real plot, just the two main characters getting together, way too many mediocre sex scenes with little point to them, and then... nothing. I never did get the point. The characters were likable enough, even if they didn't have much substance or depth, but other than that I can't say much about the book. Basic summary? A male hooker meets a pretty vampire, the two think they'll have a little fun together and it turns into more. The standard oh, you're a vampire? Oh no! Wait, I don't care, I think I love you... story takes place and then it just sort of ends. There wasn't much more to it, really.
"The Crimson Spell" Volume 1 by Ayano Yamane - Manga. Beautiful art. Good, if not completely original, story. Engaging characters. I'm definately looking forward to the next volume. Basic summary? A pretty prince who's possesed by a demon sword seeks the help of an even prettier mage to drive the demon from his body/life. The mage asks for help with a little erand in exchange for his expertise. As they travel, the mage decides that the demon is really hot and starts exorcising the demon at night via some hot sexing, the prince none the wiser when he wakes up. It's an ongoing series, so it'll just go on from there, one would guess.
"Twelve Sharp" by Janet Evanovich - Book 12 in the Stephanie Plum series. I can't tell you how much fun this series is. So funny, and sweet, and you can't help but love the whole messed up cast of characters. The plot of this one revolved (sort of, mostly) around Ranger, and Ranger = Love. A quick read, but all eleven of these books have been great before this one, so it's no surprise that this one was awesome too. Basic summary? Ranger is falsely accused of kidnapping his own daughter, but really it was a guy who's obessed with becoming Ranger, and the guy eventually kidnapps Step too. Hilarity ensues. As usual. I just have one question: if I become a hapless bounty hunter will I find myself trying to decide between a hot cop and an even hotter bond enforcement agent? Gawd, but I hope so!
"Blood Noir" by Laurell K. Hamilton - Book 16 of the Anita Blake series. I always love LKH's books, no matter what some people have to say about them, and this one was no exception. Not the best of the series, to be sure, but still a good read. Then again, I've always been partial to Jason, and this one is Jason-centric, so that may make me a little biased. Basic summary? Jason's dad is dying, and Jason wants to go home and prove to the old bastard that his only son isn't gay by bringing Anita home to meet the family. Anita goes, as a good friend/fuck buddy would, but the Ardure rears it's ugly head and then the Mother of All Darkness messes with Anita's bonds to Jean-Claude and she somehow ends up with a new tiger in her bed. Durring all of this the media is hounding them because they think Jason is his look-alike cousin, who's the son of a presidential hopeful and is supposed to be getting married that same week at the same hotel that Anita and Jason are staying at, and when they realize that it's not Jason's cousin they then realize who it really is and become convinced that Anita has left Jean-Claude to elope with one of his strippers. It was a quick read, and obviously set up a few things for the next book/books, and definately worth a read for fans of the series. But, if you didn't like the last few books then you won't like this one either. I guess it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I liked it anyways.
Off to bed now. Hope I feel better tomorrow *crosses fingers*
