I found a Mirror.

And, as expected, nothing happened.

Maka heaved a sigh as she stared blankly at her computer screen. Her attempt to contact Shinigami-sama had failed, and while the end result was something she had expected, a small part of her had hoped it would have been possible to reach him. She would never admit it, but it made her nervous, and perhaps a ( Read more... )

Look at it this way. If you forget what you're doing, there's someone to remind you.

As Maka pondered the man's words, she laughed nervously, though ultimately, she had to admit he was right, more or less.

Hehe... I guess.

Although I can certainly see how that would get tiring.

Absolutely.

After a brief pause, she realized she had been carrying on a conversation without knowing the other person's name, and proceeded to introduce herself:"

I'm Maka Albarn," she said, cheerfully, with a hint of annoyance due to the constant narration of her actions.

Ahah. With this infliction, it would be best not to think ill of anyone, at least in their presence.

I'm Colonel Jade Curtiss, Third Division of the Malkuth Empire. I believe we've met before- you asked me for a mirror, correct?

Considering her brusque, tomboyish nature, Col. Curtiss's request was an impossible feat for Maka, who was now ready to kill the mysterious narrator for insulting her yet again.

Ah, yes, I do recall that. She replied with feigned femininity. I hope I wasn't too much of a bother.

Ah- you can call me Jade. I'm not fully accustomed to being called by my formal title. Or, direct that to your Narrator, anyway.

Oh no, not at all. It seemed to be a strange request, though.

Maka wondered if the words of the man, formerly known as Colonel Curtiss and presently known as Jade, would be duly noted (which they were). Upon noticing this, she also pondered the possibility of the Narrator not berating her (which it would not).

She also considered whether or not it was alright to explain exactly why she had requested the mirror. Telling the man that she was trying to use it to contact the God of Death himself to try to get home would certainly solicit a strange reaction, as proved by a very enthusiastic Suzumiya Haruhi just the night before...

Of course, thanks to the Narrator the decision of whether to divulge the information was made for her...

Hoh, no need to say anything.

The God of Death? That does seem rather strange... But then, look where we are.

Looks that way. She sighed, silently cursing the voice which plagued her. Shinigami-sama is the in charge of my world.

From what I've gathered so far, the rules of our corresponding worlds no longer apply here. I think trying to contact this Shinigami-sama would be fruitless. But... I'm sure you already knew that by now.

Yes, she knew it. All too well. At this point, she was desperate to speak with someone from home--- other than Soul, (who was probably off somewhere, eating everything in sight, or oogling a large set of breasts). She was almost... ALMOST willing to even speak with her father... much as she hated the man.

Uh... yeah. What the Narrator said.

Yes, I think we're all feeling that way by now. I'm fortunate to have found a few of my past companions- even if some are more dependable than others.

Well, if you need someone to speak to, even though I'm not from your world, I'm at your service.

Moved by Jade's kind offer, Maka smiled genuinely, and she hoped that more people in this world would prove to be as helpful as he was.

Heh. Thanks.
