My skin has two settings: fish-belly-pale and tomato-red-sunburn. There is no in-between. I go outside, I use sunscreen, I either burn or you can't tell I've seen the out-of-doors.

When I was little we had tanning lotion without UV filters. Sunscreens came much later. I remember using Coke to get what I consider then a "nice tan" when I was 15.
My melanoma was in situ, which made it a lot less dangerous than what it might have been have I wait more to visit the doctor. It was a good fright but nothing more.
(Be careful of sunburns, skin cancer is not a joke)
