The Brat and the Hotheaded

Jan 03, 2007 19:03

A slam of shook the castle wall, sending crows perched on the roof cawing and taking off into the sky in disarray as Deidara shoved at a grand oaken door not-so-gently. Furrowed brow twitching, he walked down the hallway in big, quick strides, eyes not glancing once over his shoulder to the boy behind him.

To say the alchemist was annoyed would be taking it lightly.

This little brat at his wake had just joined the Akatsuki today, and at first glance, Deidara had already felt that he was not going to get along well with him. (Not like he was on friendly terms with anybody else in the organization anyway.) The boy was chipper. Too chipper. Loud. Obnoxious. Everything Deidara hated in one.

And guess what he was stuck to do? Being the tour guide.

Oh Leader, you just wanted to make your damn minions’ lives miserable, didn’t you.

A push.

“This is the dining room and kitchen, un.”

And then a split second later, blonde hair was disappearing down another hallway.

Damn it, just get it over with.

The vibrations and loud noises the buttery blond (not to be confused with the man’s personality) made startled more than just the bird and peasant cats. Rather, they startled Tobi. He didn't know why Deidara seemed so angry, though he smiled when Deidara would turn to him(very rare, you see) and would add an obedient nod.

Tobi wanted to spend more time looking at the rooms than Deidara gave him, especially as he caught sight of a strange looking object in the kitchen. "Senpai! Wait for me!"

Dissapearing into the room Tobi tilted his head and approached the 'object' which he found turned out to be a spatula. "Oh."

A sheepish smile at the empty door frame. Where is Deidara-senpai? He poked his head out and stepped out into the halls but instantly a state of worry rested in his stomach. The clicking of his dark boots echoed over the stone floor as he anxiously looked around. He LOST his senpai!

It didn’t take Deidara long to notice Tobi’s absence, never mind that he barely looked at the boy. Footsteps, y’see. So, when the blonde opened another door and his ears did not hear the newbie’s boots, an aggravated sigh left his lips. Eyes sending dark glares ahead of him as he turned and walked back to the kitchen where he had left the boy, the alchemist grumbled incoherently under his breath, something about idiotic little brats.

A flash of orange hit his eyes as he turned a corner. That mask was ridiculous. Deidara’s lips were pressed together in hard lines as he took swift, angry steps towards the boy.

“You’re supposed to follow me, un,” He spat, hands folding before his chest. He couldn’t stand the company. Horrible. So much worse than Sasori. At least a psychotic puppeteer was better than a chipper fool.

Feeling as though under scrutiny he lowered his head and his shoulders rose as if to make himself smaller. "I'm sorry, Deidara-senpai. I was just looking at the kitchen." In his defense, Tobi had told Deidara he to wait, though by the tone Deidara was using, Tobi guessed he should wait until much later(or at least until the tour was over) before playing explorer.

He tilted his head slightly, and blinked. The silence was unnerving and Tobi was worried that his colleague didn't like him. "Ano..." He trailed off.

Tobi was slightly taller than Deidara, but not as tall as Zetsu. He smiled slightly, but noticed as he hunched and Deidara brooded - looking down at him with the experienced arrogance of an artisan - Deidara was taller.

“Tch. Don’t get lost again.”

The blonde turned again after shooting a sharp glare at the boy. He better keep track of where they were going. Deidara wasn’t going to be so nice as to tell him where to go again. He had many other things to do besides hanging around with this idiot. Bird v.2.0 had yet to be completed. He still had to mix that stone powder into the mixture, and grind everything, and many other detailed steps. Not nearly halfway done. He was a perfectionist anyway.

Passing by a big iron door on the left of the hallway, he pointed to it carelessly.

“My room. Do not come in without my permission.”

The boy better listen. Or his limbs would go missing.

Once feeling as though he had been forgiven, Tobi made his way after Deidara and did his best to keep his gaze focused forward. However, he showed particular interest to Deidara's room and bounded himself next to the man. "Where is my room, Deidara-senpai?"

A corner of Deidara’s eyes twitched as the boy drew near, but he ignored it. Not to be polite though. Deidara never cared about politeness when dealing with people like this. Simply tired of yelling was all.

“In the next hallway, un.”

At least the empty room next to his did not go to the brat. Hell would break loose if that happened. Suddenly the blonde wanted to sigh in relief.

A small sigh and Tobi practically broke through the doors that posed as a barricade for his body. He wanted to see the room. "Is it this one?!" He asked sending Deidara a 'hitheeeeeer!' look.

He wondered if Deidara woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning - though that thought led him to believe that Deidara didn't have a bed at all! The curiosity perked enough, he gripped the handle of his door energetically. "Deidara-senpai?"

His eyes rolled in their sockets. Both real and artificial. Childish.

“Go ahead.”

His head jerked, giving the boy permission to go into his own room. He stepped inside the darkness, hand scrambling aside for a candle as he lit the wick with a snap of his fingers. The feeble light grew, illuminate only a small part of the room. But Deidara expected Tobi to know better and bring another. Really, he should be able to do that. And what was with the ‘senpai’?

After taking a gander into the quarters he smiled brightly. He knew he wasn’t going to be here all the time like some of the other Akatsuki members were, but he knew he liked the room. His room. There was a bed, a nice make as well and there was a cabinet and a wardrobe. The room was dimmed and musky by the lack of light(the little candle didn't help very much) so he went to the side of the room where the windows were paned in.

Black curtains covered the windows and he cautiously poked his head around them. One of the windows were broken, but he didn't really mind, he was sure the draft would be nice (It was always so hot.). He pulled the black cloth with a gloved hand wincing behind his mask as a portion of light swept in though the cracks and missing parts of the broken glass. "Deidara-senpai! I like this room!"

He could see the colors now and smiled at the wooden wardrobe. It was a nice touch. Pausing, his entire body froze, "Deidara-senpai, did you say something?"

The stone wall felt cold against his back as the blonde leaned against it, next to the door. Pleasant. The heat inside his body was starting to become a bother as time went by, having to be in the brat’s company. The mouth on the right throbbed, again. Fingers twisting a block of clay in his hand, Deidara tossed it into the air and caught it again. Boring. He wondered what Sasori was doing right now.

But hey, that was an easy thing to guess. Playing with his puppets, for sure.

“No, I didn’t.”

He blinked upon hearing the question, an eyebrow raised as he looked at the boy standing beside the window. Hearing things now, weren’t we? And to think that he had had enough trouble already.

"Oh... Ok!" Tobi smiled and walked back to Deidara, focusing on the dirt orb that was bounced up and down. Up and down. "Deidara-senpai?"

He paused and to look around. "What else will you show me?" Tobi decided he liked Deiara (maybe not as much as Zetsu, but Deidara was close in second).  The younger brunette bounced on the spot and once again glanced at that orb. "Can I have some clay too?"

A smirk.

“My clay is dangerous, un. You don’t want to mess with it.”

Or the boy would have to learn the hard way. Playing with Deidara’s art was never a good idea. His art is destructive. And beautiful in its own way. Anybody who meddled would end up a sorry mess. He caught the ball in his palm, letting the tongue swirl around it and taking it inside the mouth. Without careful handling, the innocent little piece of dirt could be your demise. Unless Deidara didn’t want it to, of course.

“There isn’t much else to show, un. Just don’t go into the rooms in these hallways and you’d be fine. The Akatsuki are privacy freaks. Remember that, un.”

He turned and walked out of the door, lingering just a moment for the boy to follow.

Tobi pauses at first, but trots after the man again. "Oh- Ok. Where is Zetsu-san's room?"

He smiled expectantly at Deidara, still curious of the effects the clay could wreck. "Ne?" He looked at Deidara, carefully and finally noticed a pink amount of tissue on the other's palm. "Deidara-senpai! Is that a TONGUE?"

Tobi lowered his head, one of his arms grabbing the other's wrists so he could take a peak. "It is! How did you do that?"

Deidara twitched and yanked his hand away like the boy was the plague. Too touchy. Way too touchy. This brat would not survive in the castle if he kept that habit up. Nope, not one day.

“It’s part of my body. Don’t touch it, un.”

He growled, but held the hand out for a brief moment for Tobi to take a look at the mouth on his palm.

“And, on second thought, you need to keep your hands and body parts to yourself.”

How the boy could be accepted into the Akatsuki, the blonde couldn’t understand it.

Tobi is slightly startled again, and keeps his hand at his side. (He whimpered slightly from such a harsh tone. I'm sorry, senpai...)

The tongue was intriguing and Tobi smiled at it. "What do you mean, senpai?" He asked with genuine curiosity. "Why do you have tongues on your hands?" He asked nodding again.

Tobi was accepted because of his knowledge and ability to sneak in without another glance. Despite his clothing, his tone and mental stability left him vulnerable and easily manipulated. But because of this, he was also able to keep a watchful eye off of him.

“It’s for convenience’s sake, un.”

That was it before Deidara’s back was turned to face Tobi again as he continued walking down the hallway. The boy was also too curious. Curiosity, by itself, wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Deidara was a curious man too, but there were things better left unknown, like other people’s private businesses.

If Tobi wanted to know the reason, then he would have to try it first hand. Something the blonde doubted would be a pleasant experience.

It never was, and never would be.

Tobi was always interested in experiencing and learning new things and when Deidara simply left it at that, it left his curiosity razzled and with plenty of questions on the tip of his own tongue.

His feet clapped over the cool ground again and the noise echoed though the walls. This really was a beautiful castle. The stone was a faded bronze color as if it was a sandy gold color, though the pedestal placements were a solid, noble color that Tobi couldn’t quite place. He hear another sound behind him, and turned his head.

Each time he heard such a voice, he shivered, and felt a tension in his stomach. Tobi turned and quickly stumbled after Deidara, following close behind the man. That voice was ominous and Tobi knew that if it ever caught up to him, he wouldn’t live to speak about it. The colors were different though, so he knew the voice was only a warning.

The dying sunlight spilled into the hallway in orange streaks. Deidara’s shadow reflected on the rusty, dark wall as he made his way to the other side of the castle. The sun was about to set. Damn the brat for being a hold up. But it wasn’t like he would regret not showing Tobi through the whole castle anyway. The boy could use some experience exploring on his own.

“There’s a dungeon, down those stairs.”

He pointed to a set of stone stairs leading down to the darkness below. The boy looked like he was a scaredy-cat too. Let’s just hope he would not wake up screaming from nightmares. Anybody who was a part of the Akatsuki needed to be iron-willed. This Tobi didn’t look like it. He didn’t act like it either.

Hopeless.

"Deidara-senpai? Is this castle haunted?" He asked quietly swallowing again while sparing a small peak over his shoulders before huddling next to the blond who had stunning ocean eyes. It wasn’t that they were specifically blue, rather, they were the true aqua color. A tropical color of ocean water, where you could see the sands and the reefs.  If Tobi wasn't spooked at the moment, it was certain he would have inquired to Deidara's heritage.

Blond hair, majestic eyes and fair skin were usually associated with nobles who were high up and kept inside of towers (-away from the burning sun).

A fearful glance down to the haunting stair case; Tobi was sure there was blasphemic and torturous things down there.

Oh, great.

Deidara shrugged. “Dead corpses, dark corners, torture instruments, you name it, un. Haunted? Maybe just a bit, un.”

He smirked at the boy hanging by his side, relishing in the fear emanated from the kid with pleasure. Annoyance because he was too close came right after, but the alchemist still had the right to enjoy a little scare. This boy was too weak, it was pathetic. Just never get Deidara involved with him again, then maybe the blonde would enjoy seeing Tobi struggle and suffer. Right now, just a glance was an eyesore.

"R-really, Senpai?" He asked, huddled closely. It was terrifyingly unnerving to think that those voices were real.

"Senpai?" He asked again, disobeying Deidara's 3rd... or 4th rule, by reaching out and tugging on the dark cloth that Deidara was garbed in. "Can ghosts hurt people?"

He wanted to get away from that staircase- and he hoped he would never be on guard duty.

“Oi, oi, oi… tch.”

Deidara scowled again, yanking his sleeves from the boy’s hand in frustration. Why in hell did Leader let this crybaby into the Akatsuki? The alchemist’s patience was being tried past his limit every second that passed, and he didn’t think that it would last much longer. Deidara was never a patient person. Not when dealing with idiots like this boy.

“Behave like a man, will you, un? You’re in the Akatsuki now, don’t embarrass us like this, un,” he snapped, voice harsh and cold. He would have to dispatch of Tobi if he became a hindrance to their activities. But that was if the kid could stay out of the blonde’s way and not irritate him any further.

Calming himself Tobi gave a nod. "I'm sorry- but the voice wont go away."

He knew Deidara was mad at him again, and even for him Tobi knew he was being clingy. He was trying his best though, sighing and relaxing himself. Tobi turned his attention down the halls and sighed. "I'm sorry." He repeated again.

Once regaining his cool, he turned to Deidara. "You don’t have to guide me anymore..." He whispered, and turned to the other man. He lowered his head and glanced away. He was sure he was going to be able to find his way around here. Eventually.

Deidara’s real eye twitched (the other one couldn’t) as he glared at the cowering form of the boy before him. Annoying. Coward. Childish. He hated it. A growl left his lips at the resignation in Tobi’s words, and while the alchemist hated the boy, this display of fear and cowardice was not acceptable.

He whacked the kid on the side of his head. Mouth secreting just enough powder to spark, setting the black mess on fire.

The boy needed a lesson. Now.

Tobi whined slightly at the assault before glowering at the burning heat. Tobi HATED to be hot. To him, the beauty of a flame was only surpassed by it's hazardous flickers. Tobi was quick to extinguish any flame he saw(even a camp fire or cooking flame). A gloved hand brushed over the back and for once he glared at Deidara. A small amount of the ashed strands came of like dust and the sickening smell of something alive being burned wafted in the small area.

"NOT ok, senpai."

A scoff made itself known as Deidara looked at the boy and his charred bits of hair. There was some fight in there, after all. So this kid wasn’t a complete failure. Not as hopeless as it had looked. The blonde smirked and turned, throwing a glance over his shoulder.

“Then what are you going to do about it, brat?”

Taking that as a challenge, Tobi smirked from behind his mask and began to run. Oh yes. Right at Deidara-senpai.

While charging, his arms stretched outwards and he managed to make that beautifully colored turquoise orb widen as he tackled. When they were both on the floor, Tobi managed to straddle Deidara efficiently, keeping him down and he grinned wildly. "I'll do this." He smiled childishly, and got off again before brushing himself off.

It took Deidara a moment to realize what happened. He should have been able to sense the brat coming, but somehow he didn’t. Not only he hadn’t dodged, he had let the kid sit on him. What the hell was he doing? And that annoyed him, a lot. The boy too. He twitched and jumped off his back, teeth grinding loudly.

“The hell was that, un?”

He couldn’t stand the boy. He just couldn’t. Even now that Tobi had shown a little more spine to him than before, Deidara still disliked the brat.

Tobi laughed shyly(-impishly). "I didn't really want to hurt you, senpai- So I only pushed you." He smiled and tilted his head with obedience- Tobi knew by far how to avoid conflicts, but Deidara had asked for it...So- to avoid any further conflict or another burning of the back of his scalp, Tobi ran over the halls, waving. "I hear Leader-sama, Deidara-senpai! You better go- don’t want to make him angry~"

Tobi was quick to slide himself into the next corridor- that ominous burning orb was quite... ominous.

tobi, deidara
