I got distracted yesterday afternoon and didn't finish what I meant to write about the magic cast-on. Strangely, although I'm mostly left handed and crochet left handed, I knit right handed but I have to follow the left-handed version of the instructions for this magic cast-on because I do this cast-on left handed. (I normally cast on right handed, I think.) One useful thing I've found on YouTube is that sometimes, people who have made a video of themselves knitting or crocheting or whatever right handed, will also post a reversed version of the video so that left handers can follow it too.
The distraction yesterday afternoon was that S's son came over to catch up, and we spent a fair amount of time talking about cats. Well, actually, he did most of the talking because he talks a lot, but it was interesting. He and his housemate now have three cats. They used to have two but one died suddenly of kidney failure and recently they adopted two 10-week-old kittens who seem to have integrated into the household well.
This was the first in-depth conversation I've had with him since S left us, and I think it was good for both of us to compare our impressions of how her final month or so progressed since we had mostly been with her at different times while she was in the hospital and then the hospice.
He'll be back here later this week for Halloween with my granddaughters, who all love him. (He and S share a special affinity for children.)
