More on Corporatism

John Stossel's latest segment on FBN was about "Crony Capitalism." You can read and see videos related to it by Googling "Stossel crony capitalism". Some good examples - my friends, it goes way beyond Wall Street. In particular, the discussion of how (some of) the regulated firms manage to capture the regulatory process for their own competitive advantage is worth studying. The bit about Serious Materials was just icing on the cake.

And for those of you that have the impression this stuff is relatively new, note that "Congress' first act in 1789 - on July 4, no less! - was a tariff on foreign goods to protect influential domestic business interests." (Stossel writing in the Colusa Sun-Herald). Just as both the right and left have agendas for social control and conformity, so do they both have agendas for advancing business interests aligned with their political interests. Paddle that canoe.
