I'm currently without a warden. We've been separated. [To the point.] That particular Doctor is still here. [So no one panics and thinks they've been left.]

[A pause.] This may be an unusual question, but for those of you that had friends- [He's assuming some people here will deny ever having any association with the word, ( Read more... )

I would say that if they're loyal to you, you trust them, and you like each other, they could be counted as a friend.

...When I became friends with Omega, it was simply because he cheered me up after I got a bad mark. In quite the unimportant little test.

That raises something of a difficulty for me, as my concept of "trust" differs from that of most races. At least most of those on board.

But there are quite a few people I share mutual like of.

How different?

And that's something at least. Are they loyal to you? Would they risk themselves to help you?

We trust people to be themselves. Not so much personal safety, but rather for that person to act as we predict. The better we know them defines how close we've gotten.

I'll never trust anyone in the same way other species do, so if I'm going to have to interact with other races and never see my own kind again, I'm going to have to consider how I translate the perspectives.

But I know a few that would have risked themselves to help me. And at least one I would die for. [And have died for.]

That's as much an indication for friendship as the trust I was thinking of. If you're close to them you usually are their friend.

And I would say those people might very well be your friends. One doest risk oneself for just anyone. And one wouldn't die for just anyone.

Most people wouldn't understand it, though. I'm sure Perseids consider anyone that would allow themselves to be the subject of an experiment to be a true and honored friend.

It never struck me how much the definition varied before.

[Private] It is? I haven't tried since this morning. How annoying :| shortsghtedlove September 15 2011, 20:25:10 UTC
I suppose that could be an indication of trust also... depending on the experiment. Though I don't think you should use your friend that way.

For friend or trust? And it is only o be expected. Different cultures will have different values.
