Merlinland fic post - A Hero Came Along
Title: A hero came along

Summary: someone saves the day! Not who you think though
Authur's Note: i wrote this in a real hurry for merlin_land so there are loads of mistakes (which i will correct in time). I also wrote it kinda tongue in cheek, as the challenge was about mary sues and gary sues!
Gwen and morgana stayed with the horses while Merlin and Arthur ran off after a deer. Why they needed to kill it was anyone’s guess but off they went anyway.
They stood holding on to the reines of the horses, laughing with each other about how useless the boys actually were, when a group of men came running out of the trees towards them. The horses reared up and scattered.
Morgana and gwen were both taken off guard and were unable to get their weapons off the horses before they ran. They stood in the Clearing close together as the group of men with swords draw walked menacingly towards them. One of the grabbed gwen and held a knife to her. Morgana saw this and decided not to attack for fear of them hurting her maid.
Just when they thought all was lost an animal ran from the woods onto the back of one of the men, sending him screaming to the ground. The other men turned to see where the attack was coming from only to be hit in the chest with arrows. The arrows killed 3 of the bandits but there were 2 still standing, one holding gwen the other standing ready to fight. He was unable to see his opponent and swivelled around trying to see him.
On the small rise to the left a man stood leaning against a tree, he was placing a bow on his back and drawing a sword. He smiled and walked down towards the group
"attacking women is the sign of a coward" he said swinging his sword
The bandit just ran at him not caring what he thought. With a quick swish of his sword the man was down. That only left the one holding gwen
“Let go of her and fight me like a man"
The thug did exactly that. He pushed gwen out of the way and ran towards the stranger. The mysterious man stepped to the left avoiding the man’s lunge. He smiled at the women and turned and dispatched the thug with one swing of his large sword.
The wolf that had attacked the man stood on front of the women, both of them concerned that it may attack them. The stranger walk toward them
"do not worry, Samson wont attack you, he only attacks who i tell him too’
‘thank you for helping us, i am the Lady Morgana and this is my maid Gwen’ morgana said motioning to gwen
He bowed ‘My Lady, i am known as Major, my companion here is Samson and my other companion is Midge ‘ he said pointing to the wolf and then to the chest pocket on his shirt, as he did a mouse popped it’s head out.
Morgana had never seen anyone like him before, he was more handsome than any of the knight or princes who came to Camelot. He had the blackest hair either of them had seen and his eyes seemed to be just as dark. He was wearing a dark shirt that was casually open at the chest showing off a muscled torso with a scar visible across his chest.
He looked at the horses and suddenly they all trotted back to where they were, gwen looked at him then at the horses
‘How did you do that?’ she asked
‘animals like me, they normally do ask i ask’ he smiled
‘’Magic?’ morgana asked tilting her head as she spoke
Before he could answer Arthur and Merlin ran out of the forest at them
Arthur stopped abruptly in front of them and looked around
‘what happened?’ he asked, looking at Gwen and moving slightly towards her
‘I saved these lovely ladies from a gang of bandits’ Major said triumphantly
‘Wow, you have some skills to take out all these guys by yourself’ Merlin said
‘Well, yes, i’ve been told that before’ Major said smugly and looking at morgana smiling

He helped gwen and morgana on to their horses and held on to the reines of morgana's horse. As they walked along, back to camelot, gwen noticed the bow on Major's back
'thats a beautiful bow, major, where did you get it?' she asked
' it belonged to my mentor Ralphor, he taught be to use it and gave it to me before he died. Since then i have been living from day to day, raising myself, its been a lot of fun' he looked up at gwen and smiled 'im quite well known in my parts for my bow skills, i would win the annual 'best shot' contest in villages every year. In the end they stopped me entering' he shrugged 'i was just too good'
They carried on in silence for a while, with the ladies admiring Major, then he turned to them
'its awfully quiet, would you like to hear some music? Im an excellent flute player' he reached into his bag and pulled out a flute. He held it up then started playing.
The journey to camelot didnt seem as long with music to travel by.
