Both are okay, altho last week two of my temp coworkers were fired suddenly, so obviously the job's not a sure thing.

My ex-landlady is still as nuts as ever: she filed a small claims against me for not only back rent (which I never disputed I owed), but for an additional $1500 for what she claims is my "fraudulent claim that I didn't owe rent", which she claims made it necessary for her to hire an attorney, so she's claiming the $1500 is for attorney's fees.

The thing is, it was a month-to-month lease. She always had the right at any time to just say "I don't want to have a tenant in my father's house anymore" and serve me with a Notice to Quit.

In fact, that is what she did, altho she seemed to feel she needed to "justify" evicting me by claiming I hadn't paid October's rent, which was a lie. She even showed up for the first housing court date without an attorney. It was the housing court clerk who told her and her sister that they should probably have the estate's attorney involved, BECAUSE THE ESTATE WAS IN TRUSTEESHIP.

The whole trusteeship thing seems to have taken my ex-landlady and her sister by surprise. Be that as it may, once they were told that they probably should have the estate/trusteeship's attorney involved, ex-landlady and her sister decided to postpone our day in court, because they couldn't get the attorney to show up on such short notice.

Bottom line, she NEVER needed an attorney due to any back rent issues, the only reason she ever got the attorney involved was because the place had gone into trusteeship.

In fact two weeks after she'd served me the Notice To Quit, she popped in (unannounced) with her sister, and amongst a lot of other rambling nonsense made the statement that I thought I could stay there and not pay rent. Don't know where THAT came from, but my response to her was that I knew very well that I could not live there and not pay for living there.

So a few days before I moved she left the papers regarding her small claims case against me laying on the floor inside the door to the outside. Again, she'd come in without previous announcement/permission.

Which is against the law. Don't know if I posted about the two times I had to call the cops on her. She argued with the cops, even argued in housing court that the cops don't know anything because they aren't lawyers.

State law states that if a landlord continually enters the tenant's premises for nonemergency reasons without getting prior permission from the tenant, it is considered harassment. State law says the tenant can sue "for not less than one month's rent" for such harassment.

So two weeks after moving I get something in the mail from small claims court, giving me until the end of Febuary to respond to ex-landlady's claims.

Gave a couple of options to check off; one section I chose disputing the $1500 claim for attorney's fees. A second section I chose which gave me the option to basically file a counterclaim against ex-landlady, where I spelled out the actual statue regarding harassment, and claiming I therefore do not owe rent for the 3 months she subjected me to such harassment.

If I win, it would mean I'd end up paying her $120-something instead of the $3000 she wants.

Last thing I heard was a copy of a letter small claims sent to ex-landlady which included my response, and giving her until March 25th to respond to my response.

The longer this thing drags out, the better for me; it is to ex-landlady's advantage to try to speed things up. To this date I have not gotten anything else from the small claims court, so I'm hoping she took my response to her expensive attorney, who explained to her that I actually have a valid case and that I will probably win, and she should therefore forget about pursuing the case.

But I'm not holding my breath...the bitch is crazy and vindictive.
