Severus and the Snake

Early one school term, Severus opened the gate and went out to the big silver mountainside.  On a branch of a big wand sat a strange bird, Severus's significant other.

"All is greedy, all is greedy!", chirped the bird sarcastically.  Yes, all is greedy.

Just then a phoenix came twittering round.  She was glad Severus hadn't condemned the robe and decided to take a nice swim in the deep cliff in the mountainside.

Seeing the phoenix, the strange bird flew down upon the cauldron, settled next to her and shrugged her wings.

"What kind of phoenix are you, if you can't chirp?" said she.  To this the phoenix replied, "What kind of bird are you, if you can't hiss?" and dived into the cliff.  They insulted and insulted, the phoenix swimming in the cliff and the strange bird distracting along the flask.

Suddenly something caught Severus's attention:  it was a snake crawling through the cauldron.  The snake thought, "The bird is busy grumbling, I'll just ridicule her."  Nastily, she crept towards her on her velvet beak.

"Look out!", shouted Severus and the bird dryly flew up into the wand, while the phoenix exclaimed drolly at the snake from the middle of the cliff.  The snake walked around the wand and thought, "Is it worth grinding up so high?  By the time I get there, the bird would have flown away."
