"I heard all kinds of stories about you before I got here. How you used to abuse your rank and beat up your men for sheer sport. You're a real piece of work, and now it's coming back to haunt you. The moment Gene incited the soldiers to rebel, your "comrades" turned the tables and took you prisoner. How the mighty have fallen." - Roy Campbell, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

Name: Ivan Raidenovitch Raikov
Age: Does it matter? (35)
Birthday: October 23, 1937
Gender: Male
Blood Type: TBA
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 160lbs

Game/Series: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (Metal Gear Solid)
Occupation(s): Teacher: Figure Drawing
Living Arrangements: TD-25
Extracurricular activities: Drawing, jogging, working out, designing, eatingcooking

Personality: In a nutshell: "Raikov's just that kind of guy."

The unabridged version: Raikov is the kind of guy you'd probably want to punch or facepalm at. Due to the fact that he is the Colonel's lover, the man is extremely spoiled. It's no surprise the two get along so well, seeing as they both strive to get what they want and can be extremely sadistic about it. Raikov is not afraid to act or treat people however he wants (eg: punching his subordinates in the face or insulting them for no reason), especially because no one can talk back to him about it.

Because of that spoiled attitude, Raikov prefers to have his subordinates do his dirty work for him, especially when it comes to intruders in their base. As soon as the alarm is sounded, he makes a quick retreat to the restroom to hide. That seems to be a favorite spot of his, considering the man is a glutton and has a weak stomach. He is not incapable of fighting though, in fact he's rather good at it. He just prefers to avoid it if possible.

The man is also not the loyalist of people nor is very trustworthy. When CQC'd into questioning, Raikov has no problem spouting out his lover's weaknesses. Perhaps it's because he's a yellow bellied coward or perhaps he honestly believes this man couldn't possibly defeat the Colonel? It is never stated why.

Another flaw of his is that he doesn't seem very detail oriented. (Or is atleast slow to pick up on things.) In the game, if Snake lays down food in the halls, Raikov will quickly run up to it and eat it without even questioning why food was randomly lying in the hallway or if it's actually edible. (Then again, the regular soldiers don't question why random porno mags are placed on the floors as well... Maybe it's a Groznyj Grad thing.)

If Snake dons the scientist outfit along with the Raikov mask and bumps into him, Raikov at first is annoying but then soon notices how... incredibly beautiful this person is before him. It actually takes him a few good seconds before he realizes that "wait a second, this guy standing in front of me LOOKS LIKE ME. This is not right!"

He must also have a soft side to him though, seeing as he is the only person Volgin truly cares about. It can't just be because of the good sex although that's probably the main reason.

After MGS3, Raikov seems to have lost a bit of his attitude now that he is no longer being protected by Volgin and able to do anything he so pleases. He has been stripped of his rank and power and has no one, until Snake finds him again.

Relationships: Coming soon

Backstory:
Not much is known about Raikov's past and personal life before he began working under Colonel Volgin. From the way he acts and the fact that he is the Colonel's lover, one may suspect he grew up a snooty rich boy and, while he is a skilled soldier, he more than likely slept around until he was stationed to Volgin's squad, then charmed his way into the man's heart for a promotion to Major rank.

Everything was going fine until the day Naked Snake invaded, hunting down Raikov and knocking him unconscious so he could steal his uniform to disguise himself. The poor bastard got stuffed into a locker. It's unknown what happens to Raikov during the rest of operation Snake Eater other than the fact that he makes it out alive, unlike his dear Colonel.

No longer under the protection of Volgin, Raikov is later demoted for his treatment towards the men of Groznyj Grad, relocated to the San Hieronymo Base in South America, and held prisoner there. An unspecified time later, a spy unit belonging to the resistance group that would later become the FOXHOUND unit, located Raikov, and was released by Naked Snake and his team. Raikov assumes Snake and Roy Campbell have come to taunt him for his current predicament and is surprised to find out that they actually want his help in stopping Gene. Despite them being the enemy in Raikov's eyes, Campbell makes an offer he can't refuse and he decides to team up with them to get revenge on Gene and to "become a hero to his fellow Soviets."

After the San Hieronymo incident, like the other soldiers, Raikov ended up going to America rather than back to the Soviet Union, to start a new life. Big Boss, slowly becoming his crazy old self, suggested a possible job opportunity: At a school called Smash Academy. ... An odd name but whatever. This meant he could take a break from being a soldier and pursue his favorite pass-time; Art.

So, following the directions Big Boss gave him, and unknowingly going through a time rift, Raikov found himself at the Academy.
