I think that Rios is blindly ambitious. But the problem with her is that her only way of solving problems seems to be brute force. She just pushes and pushes until she get what she wants and that's not how you deal with people. That's why Sharon keeps outsmarting her.

I also think that the writers were trying to do with Rios the same thing that they did with Sharon. Rios was supposed to be the foil to Sharon but it doesn't seem to be working at all.

I see her as being blindly ambitious as well, and I actually have zero issues with that. My issue is that it feels kind of forced, (the dead body thing also feels forced and fake) I find myself feeling like the writers don't have a good feel for who Rios is. I'm hoping that they've worked on that and improved for the second half of the season.

I have no problem with blind ambition as long as the person is actually good at what they do. To me, Rios just feels like she has no idea what she's doing and sometimes she just gets lucky.

Yes, I quite agree with you.

I think the biggest problem with Emma, really, is that she doesn't come across as particularly competent. If she had the demeanour she has, but was clearly a top-notch DDA who could get away with it because she was excellent at her job, she'd probably have been more accepted. For example, a lot of people (not me, obviously) found Sharon abrasive when she started, but accepted her anyway because she was quite obviously brilliant at what she did, and was correct in everything she said - she just had the opposite view on many things to Brenda ( ... )

THIS THIS ALLLLLLL OF THIS, and ESPECIALLY THIS:
However, I have actually enjoyed the slow progression of her character and the way that Sharon has taken her under her wing, even while protecting Rusty from her. I've really enjoyed watching Sharon as a mentor and as a woman trying to support another woman who she doesn't necessarily get along with - that's been awesome, and a nice contrast to Amy, who is genuinely eager to learn.

Sorry, that's not a very helpful reply comment, but you've already said so much of what I wanted to. :) (Also, of note, Nadine has admitted that she was very shy and a bit intimidated when she first came on the show, so I can see how she might have went with the flow with that and let the character actually guide her into a comfortable place ( ... )

While Emma's character is annoying, she's kind of grown on me. I think in time, with the help of Sharon, she'll figure it out. Also, as a DA her inability to handle death does not surprise me. My brother is a lawyer in the DA's office and he shared that a few times when seeing bodies he gagged. The one time he saw a child, (at a crime scene) he threw up.
While I like the idea of rotating the DAs, PLEASE don't send Claire! She was the one in the final few episodes of The Closer. Like Emma, she was rude and annoying. I did not like her!
