I thought that hangover would never go away...

I feel as though I've exhausted the possibilities for recreation here. I almost wish there were another port, flood, anything to break the tedium. I can't believe I'm asking this... Does anybody have a board game?

Nevermind that. I'm not that desperate yet.

I just need... to get away something to ( Read more... )

post-flood, wah bored, going stir crazy, whiny bastard

This might sound a little silly, but if you're agreeable to it, we might look to actual work to fill your time. I know it doesn't sound the most entertaining, but it's one thing you did have in your normal day to day life once upon a time, is it not?

It's not something that is usually done, I don't think, but I don't see why it can't be if it's necessary.

What sort of work is there to do here?

Anything you can think to do.

Y'know it's not like you'd be putting the faceless ones off; they're not real people, just shadows of people. They don't work here because they need the work; the work just needs to be done.

I'm not exactly suited for that sort of work.

What, like schools? I've never been to one, and there aren't many where I come from, not close by.

I never much liked the idea of them. Learning -- fine, I like learning. But I always had the impression that those places were for people who had fairly every minute of every day planned ahead of time.

And who wants that?

They're more of a necessity in my time.

...I do, clearly.

So it's not just rich people where you come from?

I like that things aren't so exclusive, then.

What trade did you learn in school, then?

No, not just the wealthy.

Art History.

So...you were going to write books about history before you joined the military? Or teach?

No. I was just getting a degree so that I could go into Sandhurst.

What's Sandhurst?

What sort of trade does the degree get you, then? Is that what Sandhurst is?

It's the Royal Military Academy, where one receives officer training.
