Describe a dream that you've had. How did the dream make you feel?

Waking with a start, he sits up in bed breathing deeply, trying to catch his breath. He’s sweating and shaking but he knows it’ll eventually pass. He’s had this dream before.

It’s always the same dream, only now from time to time, the characters change. It’s not really a dream, more of a nightmare. Unfortunately, it’s a nightmare based off of reality.

Shucking the covers he gets out of bed and makes his way to the adjoining washroom. Hands on the edge of the sink, head bent low between his shoulders; he fights to regain his composure.

Tonight, the star of the show was Rodney. On his knees in the hive ship, the Wraith queen’s hand splayed on his chest, sucking his life from him. His eyes meeting John’s, who’s watching the scene play out from an alcove slightly above - eyes that beg for John to end his suffering.

John shudders. He always wakes before he pulls the trigger.

In the original event, it was Col. Sumner’s eyes who had begged John to end his suffering. And for a long time, it was simply a replay of that moment that plagued his sleep. But as he grew to know those around him, those he not only felt responsible for but had also become close friends with, the colonel’s role started to morph into them. Elizabeth, Rodney, Teyla, Ford, Ronin, Carson… they all have had their turn in his nightmare.

Turning on the water, he splashes his face. It helps - at least physically. As he raises his head, his eyes meet his reflection. If faced with the situation again, with someone he’s come to consider family, could he pull the trigger? Could he end their suffering? Is it something he could live with?

Drying his face and neck, he tosses the towel at the sink and heads back to his bed. Sitting on the edge, he opens the nightstand’s only drawer. Pulling out Col. Sumner’s dog tags, he rubs his thumb over the raised lettering. It’s almost two years and he still struggles with what happened. Not a night goes by where that moment doesn’t play in his head at least once. He doesn’t regret what he did that day. He fully believes it’s what the colonel had wanted him to do.

But, he still has to live with it and that’s the hardest part.
