Seeing Dr. Heightmeyer's name appear in his inbox, causes John to fidget slightly. He's sure it has nothing to with any issues or concerns, but one that has everything to do with what was discussed in this morning's briefing.
Unsurprisingly the stress levels for the majority of the population of Atlantis were running exceptionally high. It was Dr. Heightmeyer's feeling that everyone should be keeping a journal - a way to give voice to those pent up emotions and would help to alleviate some of the daily, general stress. She also had suggested the sending out of weekly prompts to assist those requiring inspiration, as well as making the responses mandatory to a handful of those who she felt were under the most stress. Unfortunately, John was on the top of her list.
Reading the subject line, John rolls his eyes and groans. He truly hates this idea. Oh, he fully understands her reasoning to the exercise, but he's never been one to share his feelings and definitely doesn't want to write them out. He has other ways that he prefers to handle his stress, personal issues and concerns. However, it was made quite clear that this wasn't optional; any one who didn't comply would be required to weekly visits instead. And that was something he would rather avoid.
Not to mention that Dr. Heightmeyer had the support of the full senior staff - including himself. It was a good idea; he just didn't like having to be one of the ones who had to do it. He did take some comfort knowing that he wasn't the only one on her list of mandatory responses. To his knowledge, it was also supposed to include the rest of the senior staff and anyone who was part of an off-world team - but for the most part that was considered confidential information.
Looking back at this week's subject: "Write a letter to the person you hate most". His first thought was that he really didn't hate anyone. But then that wasn't completely true. There was Cowen - who was dead; and Koyla - who was supposed to be dead; and writing to the dead didn't strike him as being a sane move in of itself. And, although he wasn't overly fond of Otho - the chamberlain, or Phebus and Thalen - the pod people; he couldn't really say that he hated them either.
She didn't really expect him to write a letter to the Wraith did she? There wasn't one in particular of the Wraith that he hated; he hated them all in general. And although technically, he didn't see them as a person or a people, but he supposed they would suffice.
Dear Wraith,
I Hate YOU!
Sincerely,
Lt. Col. John Sheppard
John shrugged as he hit send; she never said the letter had to be long after all…
