Being unemployed sucks ass!

No seriously it does.

Wednesday and Thursday I had to attend a mandatory seminar set up by the county for us poor unfortunate fools who have been unemployed for a while.

The county wanted to give all of us help in finding a new job.  Now I appreciate the help.  I need all I can get but the fact is that the seminare itself was way too long and while I got really valuable information from it I felt like I was being tortured.

The woman running the seminar was loud and obnoxious and was clearly  very much in love with the sound of her own voice.

The first day I was one of the last people to make it to class so I had to sit in the front.

By the time I had got done listening to 8 hours of this idiot practically screaming at all of us I had a raging headache.

I understand the need to project one's voice so that everyone in a room can hear you but someone seriously needed to inform her of the fact that the room sat 30 not 3000 and if she wasn't careful the people in the first few rows would have plenty of grounds for a class action lawsuit because of loss of hearing.

The first day was a waste of time because the instructor spent to much time on her performance and not enough on the information we needed. (And yes I mean performance because she had props.  At one point she whipped out a gigantic plastic stop sign to illustrate a point.  It was like I was in 3rd grade again.  Fun!)

The second day she was just as annoying but at least because of a lack of time she was forced to focus on the reason why we were all there - being unemployed and needing help- rather than her frustrations at being shut out of her previous broadcasting job.

The funny thing about the seminar wasn't so much her showing us how to make changes in our lives so much as the fact she was a walking talking illustration of why alot of people end up exactly where they should be.

The instructor had been in broadcasting and she'd planned on making her way all the way to New York, preferrably with CBS.

She got laid off and because of a non-compete contract she couldn't get another broadcast job right away. So she eventually ended up working at the unemployment office.

Now that may sound like a story full of rough breaks but the fact is if she wanted to she could have continued in broadcasting.  She's not the only person to ever lose their job and deal with a non-compete contract.

I think the real truth is that her personality and skills doomed her.  I wished I had taken a count of how many words she absolutely mangled George W Bush style during her talks.  Why would you hire someone who absolutely mangled the language so much to do a talk show?

Anyway I'm glad I got the stupid thing over with.  I have to go back to the job center where this woman works but I can only hope that I don't have to actually interact with her again.

There isn't enough Tylenol in the world to deal with that kind of raging stupidity.

unemployment, annoying people
