A Much Over-due Update

Nov 25, 2005 12:34

To say life has been crazy is today's understatement of November. I am right up there with Lisa and Mark in the being sick sucks department. I came down with a sore throat and cought Sunday, which got worse Monday but I went to work so of course, it just got worse. Okay, wait a sec, I must intertwine stories. Greg has started his night shift, so he works Sat through Wed nights 11pm-8am. So this is how it goes...

Sunday: First night shift (he's been training during days). I wake up sick, he takes care of me all day, gets a nap in and goes to work. Me, alone and miserable (and almost calling Susan at midnight to say I'm coming over, prep the couch), end up not being able to sleep so I'm online talking to him at 2am. And yes, I do go to work on Monday.

Monday: Work is hell but I make it through the day. Greg, still adjusting, gets some sleep during the day but wakes up to take care of me when I get home and sneaks in a nap. Meds help a little but for some reason I'm just wired. He leaves at 10pm, I play World of Warcraft for 2 hours and finally fall asleep at midnight. Yes, I will get 6 hours of sleep...or so I thought. At 3:30am I hear someone yelling, then I hear footsteps runs past my window and more yelling. Can't figure out if I am awake or asleep and then realize I can make out the yelling. "Lock your doors!" over and over. What the heck?!?! Okay, I'm awake now, go to the kitchen window and peak out. Four cops are looking in bushes and behind the walls for the dumpster while another two run in different directions. (Someone above just hates me.) So I get online, IM Greg and fill him in. Of course, there is no getting back to sleep. (And again, Susan almost gets another phone call.)

Tuesday: Screw this, I finish up some initial typing on district audits and leave work at 2:15, go home and crash in bed with Greg who's trying to get a bit of sleep after I had to wake him up during my lunch break to deal with payroll issues. Yet again, off to work he goes, I finally fall asleep and lo-and-behold, 3:30am, and I'm wide awake. That's it...

Wednesday: CALLED IN SICK!!!!

Thursday: Greg made an awesome turkey. We got brining stuff from William Sonoma and did that. The turkey soaked all night it in, then washed off and into the oven. 2 1/2 hours and a nice nap later the house smelled wonderful. The turkey really absorbed the flavors of the brine, and the aromatics of apple, cinnimon(?), and onion just really added to it. I made yams and marshmellow (from scratch, not from the can stuff), dressing, sauce, broccoli and chease sauce and add very proudly, did not start one fire, burn anything or make a total mess. I'm actually getting a hang of this cooking thing. (Beware Lisa...I have an awesome chicken dish I'm making on the next visit...no fire extinguisher necessary.)

So now I sit at work which isn't to bad since no one is calling and half the people called in sick. Greg and I did the 5am Best Buy run which was a total mad house. I swear, people turn into animals on Black Friday. We picked up his new video card and got out as fast as we could. Now I am well fed from a very caring boss, and he's home swearing at the computer. Guess he decided to wipe it clean and do a fresh build. (Insert giggle here)

My lunch break is about over so it's back to school audits for me. 3 and half hours to go until freedom! Unfortunately, it is mandatory saturdays for the next three weeks. OT will be nice and help with Christmas stuff.

Enjoy your day everyone!
