Third entry

Morris took another step towards the door and paused again.  What was it that had happened?  Against his will, he found himself turning, looking around the room that had become his world.  The bed in the corner was unmade.  The table was cleared, the dishes in the basin.  The basin itself was a mess, but was still better than nothing for storing the refuse and waste.  The wardrobe stood in the corner as it had since he had built it.  He remembered bringing it in, and the look on her face...
They had been married for less than three months.  The house was sturdy and new, but lacked a great deal in terms of quality goods and storage.  She had been longing for a place to store clothing that would keep it from getting bleached in the sun, and ideally safe from the ever-present threat of moths.  So he worked out a deal with the carpenter.  And on days when he wasn't needed in the tannery, he would walk across the village and work quietly in the back of the shop, revelling in the smell of the fresh-cut lumber brought in from the fields, and watched as, through his efforts, the redwood was transformed into a wardrobe he hoped she would like.
And the look on her face when she came home and saw it, shining and new...he knew that he had done well.  A tear came to her eye and she wrapped him up in her arms and kissed him.

This one almost didn't make it.  I hesitated forwards the end and couldn't find the right words.  But I saw my progress fade and panicked and made it work.  There isn't going the direction I had originally expected, but I'm really enjoying it.  Already I see where I am going to have to edit and add pieces to make it flow, but I have to admit, I'm kinda pleased with it so far.
