Okay this is odd. I'm making this post while on a Mac computer, something I'm fairly sure I've never used before. Second I've always made my sporadic posts using the program SeMagic, and now I'm using the update function from the LiveJournal webpage. I feel so out of my element.
So you may be wondering why this odd change? Well for the past week and a half I've been living in other people's houses and getting paid for it. See, I've been house-sitting. It may be the closest I'll ever get to being paid to lay around and do nothing. All I do is feed the one dog and let him or her out when needed. Its pretty sweet. I got the jobs from a friend who wants me to go with her and a big group to DragonCon next year, and knew I needed money for it. I know nothing about Dragon Con, except it is supposed to be big, and in Atlanta, Georgia. Why anyone would choose to have a giant con in Atlanta is beyond me. Oh well, its not even guaranteed I'll be going yet. No tickets paid for or anything.
Okay, so on to the meat of why I'm posting today. (Well beyond sheer boredom of no anime, games, or computer for entertainment) I am really psyched for 3 movies coming out in the next few weeks, and I'm going to talk in depth about my excitement for them and why. You have my permission to skim for what interests you ;P
RENT: When I got on AOL one day and the news blurb said there was a Rent movie in post-production, I think I had a series of heart attacks. This was months ago, and now whenever I see a TV add for it, no matter what my mood or what I'm doing at the time my right arm flies up like it has a mind of its own and reaches out for the screen followed by a squeal of delight. A squeal from me, not from my arm. I'm not that weird. Yet...
But I digress. The reason I'm looking forward to Rent so much (a broadway theatre production that came out in 95 and is frowned upon by a lot of theatre/vocal people), is that it really helped me during my early high school life when I wasn't doing so well. When I was feeling down or alone, I could go to my room and put on the soundtrack and suddenly I could be with people who were like me but even worse off. I could sing along and get some measure of comfort. After 2 or 3 years of listening, I was finally able to see a production of it here in Seattle a few years ago, and it was magical for me.
I've grown out of it a lot since then, but seeing the movie ads bring it all back for me and I can't wait to hopefully see it opening day if I can. Or ASAP if not.
Narnia Movie: I found the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis when I was still in elementary school. My sister had a boxed set of the seven books. I don't remember how I found them through her, just that I did. And I borrowed them from her for years. When I first read them, I could start one book and read through all seven, and by the time I was done, start all over again, because it had been so long that I'd forget how it started. It was a wonderful journey each time. I didn't read them for a long time after those initial few years of having them around, but I did pick them up again while in High School. It was like reading something new. I also found when I typed on the internet after reading them, my words had a distinctly British air to them. :D
Well, now there's a movie of the first book, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I've seen the British film done for TV, but its nothing compared to the pictures I have seen of this new movie. The colors make me drool on myself. My only worry is that the White Witch may not be as evil as she is in my mind. I remember as a child reading her words and actions and feeling both terrified and disgusted over this horribly cold woman, while at the same time feeling sorry for her in some odd fasion. Anyway, I could be wrong and she may be great in the film. I'll be sure to post after I see it in December.
Harry Potter 4: Okay I am by no means a Potterphile. I don't write Harry-Ron slash or know all the character names by heart or theorize about whats going to happen in the next book. But I do pick up the new volumes as they come out, and I do enjoy reading them. First off, when I was 11, the only thing I wanted in the world would be to have exactly what Harry Potter has. Well minus the dead family and arch nemisis parts ^_^; If these books had been around when I was younger, I probably would be a Potterphile, but now I'm much older and boring.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the 4th movie a lot because I think its the most interesting book overall. It has a lot of character plots that have been building in the previous books. I'm not as excited to see it as I am these first two movies, but I definately plan on seeing it in theatres.
One thing I have to say based on the previews. Eww to Harry and Ron's long hair. O_O
So those are the three movies I'm looking forward to. There might have been a couple more coming out, but I can't remember them so they might not be that important. If anyone wants to see any of these movies with me, let me know now so we can make arrangements. ;P
