Wow, it feels like forever since A8! This is the first proper chance I've had to sit down at my PC and edit and spend time uploading and all that jazz.
I had a fantastic weekend at A8! It was a lot better than I expected it to be, to be honest. My experience of A7 was not the best (not just because of the queueing, but also because of personal shit that was happening at that point) and I was a bit worried that A8 was gonna be the same. I needed have worried. I was rooming with the ever wonderful
akadougal although I sort of feel like I hardly saw her all weekend! ILU Wendy! I spent a lot of time hanging with
picklepegg and sitting in my lovely second row seat taking photos. I also met up again with
hils,
oddlyfamiliar,
rock_chick_333,
xarixian and probably some more people that I've forgotten - sorry, but it was lovely to hang out with everyone. I met Cinde, the fantastic director of
Random Acts and had great meals and chat with everyone.
In terms of the convention experience, I think I was quite lucky this time round. I arrived around 1:30pm on the Friday and was registered by 2pm, which was brilliantly quick compared to the insane queue from A7. I then joined an insane queue to buy extra photo ops and to see if I could get meet and greet tickets (I did!) which took around 2 hours, so I missed the first Misha panel because I was still in that queue.
However, being in that queue got me Meet and Greet tickets for that evening, plus my much coveted Misha/Mark P photo op. It also meant I found out about the extra autograph session, which was meant to be raffle ticket only, although they were being pretty relaxed about it and I somehow ended up with a ticket and was able to get ALL my autographs bar Jim Beaver on the Friday afternoon. Let me tell you, that made Friday and Saturday a dream. I was also able to take it slow and chat with the guys as they signed the photos for me. James Patrick Stewart loved my TARDIS phone case, Mark S chatted to me about being recognised, Kim Rhodes was ADORABLE and Mark P, well, Mark P is just fantastic. The Misha autograph still went very quickly despite them enforcing the raffle ticket rule slightly, but he did ask me where I was from and I answered "W---n," then got a bit flustered as how would he know my village and was like "uh, oh, I mean, near London, right, yes, thank you, bye."
I think that's enough above cut chat - on with the weekend!
VERY IMAGE HEAVY
We weren't allowed to take photos during the meet and greet, but it was lovely to chat with all the guests (except Misha). We had sweets at our table for icebreakers, and
picklepegg and I kept offering everyone Love Hearts. Jim B got one that said "kiss me," and so he kissed Ellen's cheek, and then when I complained that it was in fact me who had given him said love heart, he kissed my hand. Mark P held my hand *flutter*, and we got some great stories from everyone. Kim somehow ended up talking about cannibalism, Steven about his favourite sex position (it's missionary. Or, even better, any position where the woman is saying 'yes!') and we were the lucky recipients of DJ Quall's Katherine Hepburn(?) impression.
We also had the Sam and Dean and Cas bears :)
After the meet and greet it went straight into the evening party/karaoke, which was SO MUCH FUN. Mark Pellegrino standing on a table singing Big Balls, omg. Mark Pellegrino in general. We were around 2 songs away from going up on stage ourselves, but the Hilton complained and said that if the karaoke didn't stop then they would stop us completely :/
Oh well.
The panels proper started just after 9am on the Saturday, although they were running late as usual. We kicked off with Misha! I'm not going to try and remember all that was said, just share the photos, or I will be here forever, but if you want to read my tweets, I'm
@minimasical and I tweeted a lot at the weekend. My tweets are public at the moment, but in a few days I'm going to be locking down again. Probably.
We also had panels that day from Matt Cohen and Carrie Ann Fleming, Guy Norman Bee, Jim Michaels, Steven Williams and DJ Qualls.
Also on Saturday we had a panel from Kim Rhodes and James Patrick Stewart (who, along with Mark Pellegrino, is my new favourite person. In fact, Kim is amazing as well. These three, my new favourites, always)
Continuing, there were panels from Jim Beaver and Mark Sheppard
And last, but by no means least, we had Mark Pellegrino! <3
So that was Saturday! As well as all these panels I also got my photo ops done - Matt Cohen and Mark Sheppard and Mark Pellegrino. I also caved and bought a photo op for Kim and another for James Patrick Stewart because I fell in love with them so much AND a coffee lounge for James...
After all that, I was ready for Sunday! Great photo ops planned, Jim Beaver autograph and my James coffee lounge - it was shaping up to be a good day. Photos etc from Sunday to follow.
Photo usage and sharing:
I am happy for you to use these photos how you like, to make icons, graphics etc, but I do ask that you comment if you are taking any and credit me (and link me to the finished work if you're making any!)
