So I'm at my favorite Starbucks (W67th/Columbus). I'm a lucky girl, having brought my laptop along for the job-search run because I thought it would be fun to come to Starbucks and come online like the pretend-privilaged indivudual that I am. I do have to send a few resumes out via email, so I'm not being too pretentious.
New York this year is definately a new experience. I think I was so nervous about coming this time because I knew it would be - I have little to no money and it's not the "dine-out, run around the city, buy things, and see shows" summer that I'm so used to. I have a few leads for hostessing at restaurants, a gym receptionist position to apply to - and hopefully I'll find a job by the end of the week. If all else fails, I'll go for the hostessing positions that are open in Times Square (which I'd really rather NOT take, but you have to start somewhere, and $$ is $$)
Today I took class with Sean (Curran, duh), and then with Christine Wright who is an amazing ballet teacher Elaine recommended to me. Sean basically asked what my plans for the future were and when I hinted at *his* company he smiled and said "if I have a company in 2 years, definately". So there you have it. Between that comment and Graham Company class waiting for me at the end of the summer, I'm starting to think that I'll be able to make it in this hellish dance world I have insisted on throwing myself into.
This really WILL be an interesting summer.
