Solitude

So, today went kinda not as planned but still good. :) I slept in, watched a few Roswell eps, ate the leftovers from my Chinese take-away but then I didn't want to stay in the house all day. We'd been promised nice weather over the weekend: Sunny and 23°C (73°F). *sigh* But then we got this high fog, no chance for the sun to get through, so everything was grey in grey and kinda dark all weekend. Meh.
Still, I just had to get out and because it's boring to go out alone, I took my camera with me, so I could share it with you guys. :) So, you all were kinda with me and I wasn't alone. Clever huh? ;)

I thought about where to go and decided to visit a place where I haven't been in ages although it is not that far away from me. It's actually halfway between one of my work places and home. But you just never take the time, do you?

The place is a really beautiful park and a palace called Rosenau. Since it is a rahter big park with lots of trees, I thought this would be a good place to have a nice quiet walk with no (or only a few) people around, get some freh air, clear the head... you know. Just relax.

When I arrived there.... cars cars cars!!! EVERYWHERE!! :o WTF? It was not really nice "lets go in the park" weather, so what were all these cars (cars meaning lots and lots of people) doing there??? Whole street was full of cars but funny enough, the official parking lot was kinda empty and I got a nice little spot for the treefrog. And there the answer to the mystery was: They built a new museum in the park and today was the opening with a open door day, stalls for coffee and cake, beer and grilled sausages for €1, so naturally that attracted lots of people. I just didn't have the slightest clue! LOL! The official opening had been at 11am, so by the time I was there (4pm) a lot of ppl had already left, others maybe stayed to eat in the park restaurant or go for a walk, so that probably explains why so many cars were parked in the street and not in the parking lot. Or maybe others who came later, like me, saw all the cars parked on the street and thought the parking lot was full already and took the first free spot on the street that they could find.

Most of the people were gathered around the museum (and the stalls LOL) but there were still a lot of people in the park, so there was less peace and quiet as I had hoped for but it is a big park, so it was not like I was constantly bumping into people. The only time I got really annoyed was when I tried to take pictures of the palace itself and there was a group of elderly people who wanted to take a pic of themselves in front of the castle and the hobby photographer was really ambitious and ordered his "models" around for hours until he finally took the pic. All the while I was pacing up and down, waiting for them to move on but do you think they got the hint?? *rolls eyes* And of course, when they finally disappeared, another family with kids was on their way, so I had to be really quick to take a shot. But I managed. :D

Afterwards, I walked back to the parking lot and then curiousity got the best out of me and I had to have a look inside the new museum (which was still open) and it was really interesting. It's a museum for modern glass art. Kinda small but interesting pieces. Of course I had to take more pictures and I think they really came out nice. :D

When I was almost through, I ran into a guy from my party (SPD) and his girlfriend. We talked for a while and although I had planned this to be an afternoon of solitary, it was nice to meet someone and just talk. :) After a while, I said good-bye to them and checked out the stalls. It was 6:30, so I wasn't sure if they'd still sell stuff but they still had sausages, so I bought one and then I heard the woman on the other stall say they have a special sort of beer (from a small brewery from the same village where my oldest brother lives), so I couldn't resist either and had a beer with my sausage. Gawd, I'm so German! LOL!

So all in all I had a really nice (late) afternoon, not as I had planned it but still very nice.

Also, there's a bit of Doctor Who trivia for you: Palace Rosenau was the summer residence of the Dukes of Saxony Coburg Gotha and the birth place of Prince Albert, later husband of Queen Victoria. :D Yes, I'm a dork. A proud dork. :D

of course, now you all want to see the pictures but :( Flickr is not cooperating the way I want. I only have a free account there and now it won't let me add the pics to a set and other pics are now gone from my photo stream. Meh! Have to figure out what to do instead. Maybe upload to photobucket? Any other suggestions?
