Fifty Shades... again!

Aug 28, 2012 00:36

Oh my... looking at my last cryptic posts here, I really owe you guys an update. *blush* Not now tho.

Right now I'm just wondering if any of you have read / are reading the oh so hyped 50 Shades novels?

ETA: Don't read too much into my choice of profile pic LOL just choose it because of the lip biting... readers of the novels will know why. ;)

I've read most of the preview of book one that's available on Amazon - see this post for my thoughts on it. I'd love to know your views on the book(s) :)

Fortunately I was able to borrow the books, so I didn't have to pay for them.

They are really as bad as everyone says and if there wasn't such a hype about them, they'd be rather comical... in an unintentionally kind of way. ;)

My faves were Bella's, I mean Ana's, subconscious and "inner goddess". LOL!

Can't believe that woman is actually making a ton of money with such crap... well... good for her if people are stupid enough to spend money for it but then I see you and other friends of mine who are aspiring authors with actually good stories and writing and it just makes me shake my head.

The hype about these books fascinates me - it has to have been the most successful PR job in history! The whole phenomenon reminds me of 'The King's New Clothes' but so far very few people have stood up publicly to say "You've got to be kidding!"

She's making a ton of money because, when people buy a book and discover that it's shite, they just stop reading it or give/throw it away. And with something as successful as 50 Shades, those who have bought the book(s) probably don't want to admit that they've been had.

If every disappointed 50 Shades reader wrote to the media, the truth of this enormous con trick would become public knowledge, but that's not going to happen. I'd love to know, though, whether or not EL James is brave/cheeky enough to publish another one!

I read it when it was Twilight Bella/Edward fanfiction.
And yeah, it is that bad.

When I say I have read and probably written better smut, the first statement is definitely true... The second maybe ;)

There's tons of better smut out there. And I'm pretty sure I could write better, too! Never tried (well, not smut) but I'm sure I could!

And the next person to tell me Edward is a stalker and control-freak? Please!! At least he had a reason to be worried about Bella since she usually WAS in some kind of danger!!!

*shakes head in disbelief*

I've read all three and, for light, throwaway entertainment, they were okay. I don't know that I'd read anything else in that genre though.

I used to read a lot of fanfic online, so I'm used to all kinds of bad writing. I guess that's the reason why I qas able to tolerate the writing. LOL!
And I read them on my PC (friend of mine gave them to me as ebooks) so it was just like reading a bad fanfic online.

I really tried (hard) to imagine Ian and CG but for the love of him, I could NOT picture him at all! Which is funny because it was so easy to correlate the Twilight characters with their respective 50Shades characters and there was not one moment where I didn't picture Ian as Edward when I read Twilight... but as CG? No way...

And it's not because I don't think he couldn't do it. I know he can but... well... I just really don't him to, I guess... :/
