Eclipse.

No this isn't about Stephenie Meyer's phenominally successful vampire romance series. Although the only book I own of said series is Eclipse....

Anyway.

Partial solar eclipse last night - which was pretty cool actually. But only if you were looking out of five pairs of sunglasses. No, really. And my pair have gone missing. I think Mum's taken them.

My brother's back at School now. Heheheheh.

I'm leaving for uni on Monday. This thought both scares the shit out of me, and excites me beyond belief. They sorta equal out to a apathetic meh. My dad thinks I'm not taking thing seriously enough. I KNOW I'm not taking things seriously enough.

On the other hand, I get net access. As in wireless broadband access. Here, being the wopwops, we have dialup. Currently it's 45.2 KILO-FUCKING-BYTES per second. Sometimes it's only 16kbps. The fastest I've seen it is 52. It takes pages yonks to load, and just to be really depressing - a 42MB update took 12 hours to download.  Yay....

I'm not caught up on Fic. I'd hoped to be before I left, but that's three days and I've still got to pack stuff. And clean out my room since my brother's staying here while my parents come with me, and there's a family friend coming to stay. In My ROOM. But that's okay - Liz is nice.

We have two more ducks from the Pohangina sales. That's pronounced with a -hong-, not a -hang-. Which just makes me laugh. Maori place names are pretty cool, even if I have no idea what they mean. Rock on Waikikamukau!!!

We also sold six chickens - our itty bitty former chicks, at the sale. We got $2 a chicken, which wasn't too bad, because we didn't know wich ones were roosters. The ducks were $5. Together, not each. And a pair of Border Collie pups sold for six bucks.

Some idjit just stabbed the pilot on a plane from Blenheim to Christchurch. And threatened to blow up said plane. Yikes.

Yesterday I made a year-bottle. You get a glass jar and put in thing to represent a good year. In mine:
Salt - to take away negativity
Garlic - for protection
Sage for wisdom, thyme for time
Cinnamon for a bit of spice!!!
Three nails and three screws so that the nuts and bolt fall into place - so to speak.
A pretty marble to represent me, and pretty things.
Rice for good weather and good luck. And for rain - we need a bit of rain here.

I'm not kidding about that last bit - it hasn't rained for a month. This is the manawatu. It's windy and it rains. Except, y'know, when it doesn't for a month. We even had an ex-bloody-tropical cyclone come bowling over and no rain. Just cloudy for a day or two. I forget what rain looks like almost.

The irony is that three years ago around now there was too much rain. The February floods closed the schools for a week, and did a whole lot of other damage.

This year, being in Dunedin, I'll get enough of it. And snow. And freezing temperatures. It hasn't snowed here for something like fifty years.

Don't expect another post from me for a while...I'll be settling in. Although, knowing myself as I do, I'll post on Sunday night to Bitch about something.

Mai

I hate flies. They keep landing on me and it tickles/itches. And I'm sunburnt, but hey.
