Under the Weather

After an approximate of 2 years I finally finised The Bright Lights of Disturbia by  Leonidasden.

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of Sam so when I realised that the story is told from Sam's point of view I was not too excited. Any how I pressed on because this work has so many rave reviews and I want to join in the bandwagon.

TBLoD is a really heavy read. I had to stop at so many points because I just get so angry and annoyed. TBLoD is also a long read although not as long as Observations by jAnon (which took me close to  2 weeks to finish because it is that long). I had so many starts and stops with TBLoD it is not funny. Sometimes the gap between each stop and start took as long as 6 months. Because every time I decided to continue I get annoyed all over again and I stopped before I even started proper.

Don't get me wrong, the writing, plot and smut are all flawless. It's just that Sam annoys the hell out of me. Really I have to salute leonidasden for doing as awesome potrayal of Sam that it always get to me. I had so many warring emotions while reading it. Its like a never-ending roller-coaster ride.

In the beginning Sam was a whiny demanding brat. Then he became whiny possessive. Then he got obsessive. When John came into the picture, I disliked Sam so much because I agree with John (and anyway Dean>=John>Bobby>Sam, get the picture? :P).

Then somehow leonidasden managed a twist and I somehow became hopeful that Dean and Sam will workout and I was cheering Sam on. And then I disliked Sam all over again because Dad does not approve Sam/Dean wincest! (I became such a John fangirl in TBLoD). Anyway, TBLoD had to end at some point right? Right.

I have to say that I was not quite happy with the events which led to the end. I did not want Sam to leave, I did not want Dean to heal on his own and I wanted Sam to be there for Dean. Period.

I just wished that in the end they got back to hunting. Family business. Despite everything.

To me that equates to Dean overcoming all the odds and still preserving his self. Because to me hunting really is what makes Dean, Dean. Without it he is just Dean, Dean who?

There I shall end here. A monsterly long story deserves this monsterly long review.

And now I'm off to reading another monster story, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
