I don't have much to say so let's do one of these things...

IP logging is off, anonymous posting is on. So hit me. Something you always wanted to say to me or ask me but were too afraid/polite to do so? Now is the time to do it.

EDIT: I'll leave this here for whoever comes across this journal, or whoever lurks around it. -_^

Are you going to get a manga published by tokyopop as an OLE will you ever publish King of Spades in book form? Do you have any advice for people who want to be manga artists?
What is your goal as a manga artist and what are your favorite mangas and artists? What's the thing you hate most about manga? What about the actual drawing process?
Can you explain your process of how you get stories and art done? Thanx :-)

Woah, a lot of questions here!

1. I do plan on being published eventually (most likely by Tokyopop, but I'm keeping an open mind when reviewing publishers for the future as well), though I don't think King of Spades will be the story to be published (it's got...a lot of issues that I need to kink out)

2. Advice? Crap, I need advice for myself. I guess the first thing that comes to mind is...if you really want this, don't give up. But that applies to anything, really. Practice, practice, practice. Dream about practice. Look at everything (including manga) around you and study it, then use what you've seen to make something of your own. And...aaah man, there are so many people who have said this better and more concisely than I can ( ... )

Hey, it was really interesting coming across your journal. Scarily enough you're around the same age and Ghanaian I think I saw (though I'm Nigerian). I kind of expect that stereotypically you'd be pushed into a professional field that screams 'DOCTOR' or something. Though it seems that you really want to make it in the comics field (I wish you good luck).

Enough babbling though, my question for you is how you go about your inking process? Also if you don't mind could I friend you since you tend to post random art at times. You can also friend me if you want.

You can also descreen this comment. I'm not afraid :D

Hi there! Haha, you know, I feel like my parents are a bit abnormal when I compare them to most West African parents or something, if only because they're sort of...lax when it comes to their children's futures (mostly my mom, admittedly). Or it could be because I'm the youngest of three, so they're exhausted or something, I don't know. But yeah, I do know what you mean- my non-nuclear family is a bit more dismayed at where I'm going, but alas, comics have stolen my heart.

Anyway! About inking...first off, I do most of my inking digitally but I feel like the process is about the same for both methods. It's really all in the wrist. Quick strokes make for thinner lines and so I ink in quick strokes, get the general lineart down, and then go over the lineart to vary line width. After that's done, I fill in blacks wherever they're needed. It actually helps quite a bit to reference manga and study the style of inking done there, or at least that's what has worked for me.

And friend away! I'll return the favor. :)

Be thankful for their lax-ness!
My parents are a little less than unsupportive about my "artist phase" ... okay, I exagerrate. But they're not really into me focusing on art. At all. In their mind art = starvation, so you know. -_- et ptu.
I'm friending you, FYI. You're really cool. :P

Oh, I definately am thankful for that fact! Fact is, art doesn't HAVE to be about starvation (even though I joke about being a hobo often, haha)...and generalizing it to that simple point really discredits a lot of artists' achievements, I think.

Friended back. :D

Short-time lurker here, though you probably might be able to figure out who I am since I got caught up and let my name slip quite quickly after browsing your entries xD

Anyway, I was looking through Tokyopop's site for new manga and I noticed your RSM entry, which I find quite refreshing since I haven't seen anything interesting since RSM1 (no offense to any other RSM winners around here) just thought I'd praise you on your style, if my meager praise means anything :3

Oh yeah and next weeks episode of PR will be killer XDDDDD *already got spoiled*

Annnnnd lastly I share your dreammmmm as well *_*

I'm such a flake so I really wasn't able to guess who you were XD;; But thank you so much for the compliments on my entry! When I look at it now I can still see a billion mistakes, but it's nice that at least some people liked it. ^_^ Despite all of the mistakes I see, I'm still quite happy with it...I really hope that translated onto the comic itself.

And aaaaauuugh how are you people finding out about PR spoilers so quickly? ;__; No, I'll watch the episode to find out what happens...even though all of this is really making me want to see who's kicked off, like, now. :<

Yay for wanting to be a comic artist!! I wish you luck on your endeavors as well!
