Hallway outside the librarypassed_torchDecember 20 2011, 05:28:13 UTC
He'd spent most of the night keeping vigil outside the library door, trying to make sure nobody stumbled in unexpectedly and got hurt; as long as the night was, he'd ended up half-dozing, relying on the Intuition and old reflexes to avoid getting caught fully asleep - he'd rest properly when the day came.
That meant he picked up on Mary in the hallway and started awake probably as soon as she'd entered the short corridor; not just Mary, but whatever had warped her was gone - she wasn't "well", but she was herself again, or seemed that way, and his attention fixed on that end of the hallway with a hopeful perk.
Lost in her thoughts, she was blindly walking the corridors, unsure of where exactly she was going. Looking up as she heard her name, she paused as she saw Giotto. Their last meeting wasn't exactly the best and she was mildly worried at what would happen...more so that she was scared she'd attack him. Moving slowly down the hallway, she crossed her arms before dropping them, and crossing them again. She didn't know what to do or even what to say.
Definitely back to herself, and considering what'd happened...he hurried over, resting a hand on her shoulder.
"Are you alright?" There wasn't a trace of the vague caution he'd had before - just worry. He could tell her that he was sure she was back to herself, but ... it seemed better to have some patience and take some time, and see how badly she'd been hit by what'd happened.
The careful control she had came apart as soon as she felt his hand on her shoulder, the warmth breaking through to her. Falling heavily to her knees, her shoulders shook as she broke down into tears.
"Please...please, don't let me hurt anyone else...you have to protect them, please..."
She wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she hurt someone again, she was just lucky that no children had ran into her before.
As soon as she dropped, he knelt down next to her, pulling her into a tight hug; how could he blame her for what'd happened, particularly with this to confirm that she truly was back to herself?
"I'll do everything I can to make sure that doesn't happen again... you're back now, we can find a way to stop this."
Wrapping her arms around Giotto, she turned her head to cry into his neck. She didn't know how he could forgive her...if he hadn't scared her away, she would have seriously hurt him.
"...I'm scared, Giotto. I don't care if you have to tie me to my bed, I don't want to hurt anyone like that again...Promise me, you'll do anything you can to stop me."
He held the hug, giving her something stable; as far as he was concerned, what'd happened didn't really matter - she HADN'T been herself, she'd been tampered with, and he was too familiar with possession and mind-influencing techniques to hold someone responsible for something like that.
"I will - if you're ever not yourself again, I'll make sure you can't hurt anyone, and find away to break you out of it." It might take some time for it to sink in that she was free of it, but if it ever did happen again, he'd keep his word.
He may not know it, but she was so thankful that she found him. She couldn't let herself break like this in front of many people...especially Dean. He had enough problems without having to try to put the shattered pieces of his mother back together.
"...I'm not...I'm not sure that I am. I thought I was normal at first before too...but then I started doing and saying things I never thought I would.
I can almost still feel whatever they put in me crawling through my head...it never came out, Giotto...it never came out." She was so scared that it would start again and she wouldn't come back. If she thought she was capable, she would have already ripped her head open to remove the damn thing.
