Knuckle starts to wake up, all together the slow process regaining consciousness takes Knuckle a few good minutes. Longer than most. Well this didn't bode well, once again waking in a strange place, and this time he couldn't see Giotto anywhere. Not entirely surprising, as the creatures didn't seem to be after him. Well, if Giotto was well and good then he would come for him. He shouldn't be too worried. He had gone quietly under the condition that the creatures would take no one else, the last thing he remembered was beginning to try and struggle when he saw others being guided as well. There should be no need for them as long they had him. Wouldn't one person be enough? He knew he shouldn't be worried... but he was.
He sighed and looked around. This didn't sit right with him at all... he may be forced to act in case Giotto couldn't arrive in time. It was not an option he was fond of, but considering those around him- he would need to do something. Slowly he reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of bandages, and stared at them. It would just be a precaution. He may not have to break his vow, only if other lives were at risk before Giotto arrived.
He took a deep breath and rolled up his sleeves, beginning to wrap the bandages around his hands letting the phrase 'it's only a precaution' as a mantra.
Oh thank heavens, she was scared that he was dead...
Staring at the man in the cage beside her, she sighed softly, relieved to see that he was still okay. She didn't know a lot of people here, but if she was to try to get them out, she needed someone that she could count on. "Knuckle...are you okay?" For once leaving the 'Father' off of his name, it should be enough to show just how unnerved she was by the whole situation.
Her only happiness in the situation is that Dean and Nina weren't here.
He turned his head to the source of the voice and quickly rushed to her, or as close as he could given the cage. His brows knit together and his expression went solemn.
"Mary!" Oh of all the people to have been dragged here as well... he could almost feel his stomach turn into a knot. She had a son who needed her, and the children needed her as well, she couldn't be down here.
"They haven't harmed you have they?! Please tell me you're well!"
"They haven't hurt me...I'm honestly more concerned about everyone else though." Aside from when she was gripped tight enough to stop her struggling; but that she could deal with.
Reaching a hand through the bars, she moved her hand as closely to his cage as she could, desperate to feel someone else. "Did you see them too? I tried...I tried to fight them, but I couldn't seem to touch them." It was unnerving, they felt solid when they grabbed her, she just couldn't do anything about it.
"What do they want with us?" As far as she could tell, there was nothing that any of them had in common, nothing except for that accursed bracelet.
Knuckle mimicked her movements, and reached through the cell to grab her hand, holding it tightly in his own in an attempt to comfort her in any way he could. She was frightened, and to be honest so was he. His strength had never been so... ineffective before. He had always been able to at least do something. However despite the initial setback he would not give up hope. It was his duty as sun guardian to always he the support for those around him, while most guardians thought of their duty solely limited to the Vongola, this was Knuckle's entire philosophy.
"I did, and I cannot say for certain why we were chosen. I tried to fend them off at one point as well, but to no avail." He gives her hand another squeeze, and a little smile spreads across his face, "However, I hardly see that as a good reason to simply roll over and give up. I'm sure there's something that can be done!"
Holding his hand just as tightly, she drew what comfort she could from the man. She was feeling much the same; as much as she hated fighting, it was unnerving to not even be able to touch her opponents. Even demons had a physical form and it was possible to defeat them, she didn't even know where to start with the people in gas masks though. At least she could touch Knuckle.
Smiling faintly, she leaned her head against the bars. "Giving up is the last thing I had planned...I have people that need me back at the house; if I had nothing left to fight for, I'd fight for them." At least they weren't here with her though. Dean and Red would take care of everyone and Nina had other people to look after her.
Knuckle kept up his smile, not letting go of her hand until she wanted him to. Supporting her took priority over plotting escape... or perhaps he was just selfishly putting off donning his gloves again.
He reached his other hand through the bars to hold hers more firmly, before he knew he would have to let go... but for now...
"Do you have any ideas for breaking out?"
He knew he was far from being clever or coming up with something well thought out, that he left up to others. However he would offer up his brute strength to anything Mary could come up with... since at current his only plan was to try and punch the door out...
She actually appreciated that he was trying to comfort her. She hated to admit it, but she was scared. None of this looked appealing; either they were about to die, or they were going to be performing some kind of medical experiment. That much was obvious.
"Pick the locks and try to get out from there? The only problem with that is that I'm sure they're watching us. The minute one of us walks through the cage or gets the lock opened; they'll come back." And punish them to dissuade anyone else from attempting it. but...it seemed to be their only option.
"I can try to open the doors with my cross. It's the only thing I have" And from now on, she was sleeping with hairpins and making a lock pick kit as soon as they got back.
Tightening her grip, she tilted her head slightly. "Tell me that you have a better plan."
"What if they were occupied? If I can get them to come at me first, perhaps I could buy you some time you could free the others and flee?" He chuckled, "I have to admit I was never skilled at things that required such finesse. My plan was simply to try and break the door down."
And he hadn't developed a plan that really went beyond 'open the door' until Mary offered to open the doors for him.
"If I can even just buy time enough for Giotto to arrive we should be alright. I have full faith in him."
She hated that plan, but...it may be the only one they had. Tightening her grip for a moment, she pulled away to unclasp the necklace from her neck.
"If I can get the locks open, we can use your plan...but when I have everyone free, I want you to take them and run. They'll need brute force to escape and I think you'll have better luck with that." She was a strategist but there was no telling what lied outside those doors and she was completely unarmed. Knuckle would be the better choice to lead them at that point.
Taking the cross, she put her arms through the bars and started trying to pick the lock. She doubted it would work, crosses weren't designed for this, but what choice did she have? "I just have one favor to ask of you. If I can get it to you in time, I want you to take my cross to Dean and tell him I'm sorry." As much as she hated it though, he was a hunter. He'd understand her decision.
"Don't be foolish Mary, you're not getting left behind, your boy needs you now more than ever."
Knuckle smiles, though a bit sadly. "I am already a dead man. My time has long since passed. They can do what they want of me, it is simply part of my repentance. You are far more needed here than I. I will put up the best fight I can, however, should I fall I'll simply go back to the way I was before. It is the natural way of things. Let me bide time while you take the others and flee. They will need your cleverness."
"I'm not sure how much he needs me...from what he's told me, he lived most of his life without me. Why should now be any different? Because of what's happened to him? He won't even let me close to him...I know he's trying to protect me, but it hurts."
She wasn't much more alive than him. As soon as she was sent home, she'd be killed, she knew that...but she wanted to save as many people as she could before that happened.
Keeping her attention on the lock, she leaned her head against the bars, loosing patience as the lock refused to give.
He chuckled a little and raised an eyebrow at Mary. While he knew he wasn't the most intelligent of people, he had a lot of 'strays' come by his church back in the day, mostly children but a number of poor souls with tragic tails. None like Mary's and her son's, but he knew his way around such situations.
"A boy always needs his mother, even if she arrived a bit late. Besides, how do you think he would handle it if something happened to you? He's just a proud, stubborn boy is all." and a bit of a laugh, "Nothing I'm sure you can't handle."
And he begins to unbutton his robe, he was going to try and bust down the door the good old fashioned way, and he didn't want to get it dirty. Once free of the heavy robe, he rolled his shoulders and throwing a few air punches, warming up a bit before he went at it. He didn't want to pull something on his first try, and it had been many, many years since he did something like this- he was a bit nervous. Luckily his body seemed to be just as fit and in shape as the day he died.
Chuckling softly, she went back to trying to pick the lock, the end of the cross jiggling in the lock. "He gets that from my side of the family. The Campbell's were always a stubborn bunch..." Maybe that was why she'd lost everything in one night...they were too proud to save themselves.
Looking up as he started disrobing, she couldn't stop a faint blush...who would have thought that he would be built that well under his robe. Moving to the side of the cage that he was closest to, she frowned as he started punching the air. She didn't want him hurting himself.
"Don't hurt yourself...please. Maybe...Maybe I can get the lock to open?" Or perhaps she could make a bargain with the beings that brought them here.
He laughed a bit, it was good to be a bit stubborn! Especially in a place like this, it made one more resilient!
"Don't you worry about me! It's been a while, but I used to be a professional boxer in my younger days."
And that's a bit of pride in his tone. Being undefeated after several years of boxing what quite a feat, and he knew it. He had worked hard for it, and even if he wasn't actively boxing he would not allow those skills to dull. He may not have had much in his life, but he worked hard for what he did have- friends, family, his morals, and boxing.
He threw a few more air punches trying to work up a bit of a sweat, he would don the boxing gloves in a moment. He still needed to limber up.
"I just need a big of warming up is all. With the help of my ring this door shouldn't a problem!"
Hmmm maybe he should check to see if that ring is still working? ... ... ... nah!
He sighed and looked around. This didn't sit right with him at all... he may be forced to act in case Giotto couldn't arrive in time.
