I start classes tomorrow. It's a week long intensive seminar on aesthetics. "Real" classes begin on the first (well, orientation anyway), which happens to be the same day we can move into our apartment. I would be more excited if I didn't feel like crap.

I am excited, though. For all the problems I have with public education, I am giddy with the thought of maybe being able to make a change, in both big and small ways.

It's the end of summer....

I'm not sure how I did on my summer goals. I made a lot of vegetarian meals, and a few vegan ones, although I don't think I met my weekly target. I didn't churn out any new plays, but I did start writing again. Dramatic theory? Yeah, that sounded like a long shot from the beginning. I didn't learn how to make bread but I made lots of fabulous suppers like veggie lasagna and roast chicken and amazing desserts like banana coconut cake. I read. I read a ridiculous number of books:

The Road
The Gargoyle
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Through Black Spruce
The Know-It-All
Fall on your knees (for the third time, and it was a little easier to read this time around)
Escape
a whole pile of kids lit/adolescent lit
The entire Jessica Darling series, again
and other ones that I cannot recall due to cold medication.

I got a tan. I actually spent a substantial amount of time outside, and have a tan. Even my legs are tan. I still look pale compared to most people, but I have a watch tan and sandal tan and that is a very big deal for me. I took Lulu and Bibi to the park every day, and also to the Waterfowl Park and Swan Pond for picnics. Jason and I also took them to their cottage, Cape Jourimain, and the zoo. And we drank chocolate milk on the patio of the cafe. I went to the Farmer's Market as often as I could. We went camping! It was a very very good summer.

I am sad to see it go, but happy that fall is just around the corner. Sweaters. Wool skirts. Scarves. Crisp air. Apples. Leaves.
