so I was being extremely lazy yesterday and me and the hubby had a nice little mid-afternoon nap, I come downstairs around three-ish and look out the window and there is this animal on the lawn in the back yard, looks kinda like a rabbit at first glance, but no long ears. so I watch him for a few minutes, shrug, and head for the computer and look him up. Turns out to be a woodchuck, aka, groundhog. Cool, no biggie.
Fifteen minutes later, doorbell rings, it's next door neighbour lady (can't remember her name to save my soul) wanting to tell me about the groundhog and how she thinks he is now living underneath my back porch. So I stick my feet in some sandals, (wearing my nightshirt!) and we go look. Yup, there's a pile of dirt around the bottom of the latticework under the porch. Great. And he's been eating the veggies in her garden. So now I've got to figure out how to get rid of this friggin' rodent so he doesn't destroy my lawn and her garden.
Any suggestions?
The reseach I did suggests that if you remove the cover surrounding the groundhog's burrow they will be less likely to come back, so I'm thinking: remove the latticework for a while and pull out the stuff being stored under the porch, once I know he's not in the burrow, dig it up, and fill it in.
I'm kinda hoping that will work, if not I'll have to call some sort of pest control in. I don't want to hurt the little critter, he's actually kinda cute and he's just doing what they do, find somewhere to live and eat stuff! But I don't need a rodent living under my porch!
just for fun, here's a link to what the critter looks like
