for a few years, I have made this food of the very scrapes of turkey left in the bottom of the roasting bag. It involved browning the turkey bits in a soup pot, getting rid of the bones adding onions and oatmeal and having turn out like savory oatmeal or turkey scrapple. I loved it but I was the only one to eat it. this year, steven ate the turkey oatmeal/barley stuff but he did not really care for it. So, there was turkey bits from the Baronial 12th night turkey so I made it again but this time the water to oatmeal ration was much higher and I skipped the barley. It turned out much more like turkey soup thickened with oatmeal than the scrapple-like stuff of previous makings.
so, dumped the turkey bits into the soup kettle, got them warmed up and liquid added a bit of water and when the meat bits were falling off, then took it off heat and let it cool. got rid of bones and then added onion, carrot, mustard and then 1.5 cups of steel cut oats and 3 cups of water. Kept waiting for the stuff to be like oatmeal but it did not get there. but turkey oatmeal soup is more likely to be eat by other folks
