Tales of Vesperia movie - watched!

Nov 19, 2009 17:31

And so I finally went to watch the movie "Tales of Vesperia ~The First Strike~"! I couldn't aim for the Wednesday showings due to time restrictions so my watching it today was more of a "spur of the moment". ww

Anyway, basic summary: The movie's a prequel to Tales of Vesperia, showing Yuri's days as a knight before he decided to ditch his knighthood and become a NEET. :P So obviously this movie only focuses on Yuri and Flynn's friendship (or more like LACK OF friendship lol) and their (awesome!!) former troops. LOL I suck with summaries so head over to the English wiki entry instead.

The movie tried its best to not touch on any spoilers from the game so you should prepare yourself from not being able to see any or much of your fave character from the game. Even Rita, Estelle and Raven only got brief cameos and they didn't interact with each other (nor with Yuri) at all. BUT I already know these things beforehand so I mostly went to the theatres to watch handsome hawt Yuri being in action, and being well-animated by Production IG while at it.

And that's what I got, and even more. :Db

For those who are curious over characters, head over to the official site's character page!

  • Nylen(sp) Brigade is so awesome SOOOBB I kinda understand Yuri's reasons to leave the knights but it'd have been awesome to see them again in the game too. I hear the Aiheap twins get cameos in the PS3 game and totally can't wait to meet them again, but I wanna see the other members too. ;3; NYLEN-TAICHOU SUKI DAAAAA!!!

  • By the way, the Aiheap twins pretty much wore the same clothes most of the time lol. It's only until Capt. Nylen hinted their different breast sizes that I figured out how to differentiate them loooooooll! They also gave loads of yuri fanservices to za boys lol. I guess it's to make up for the lack of Ristelle in the movie. |D No complaints from me; the twins are strong ladies while also manage to be cute, so me likes. *thumbs up* SOB SOB I WANNA SEE THEM AGAIN IN THE GAAAAAME

  • On the other hand, Yuri and Flynn was pretty much giving GAAARRness to each other more than gay-ness lol. Seems like their past is a bit different than I (and most Yuri/Flynn fangirls) initially imagined these two because they bicker like a married couple more than being lovey-dovey most of the time. Actually, I don't see them being friendly to each other that much even; why are they that close in the game? Maybe it was a love-hate thing at first and once Yuri quit, the distance made them see each other in a different light or something- HEY I'M TALKING ABOUT NORMAL MAN-FRIENDSHIP HERE OKAY. I'm not a fan of this pairing but I can see where the fangirls are coming from. =3=

  • Also more revelation on Flynn's past and you can see why he grew up to be the dick he is. Oh. Sorry, if you can't tell yet, I don't like Flynn that much. |D Characters like Flynn/Suzaku kinda brush me the wrong way. (I mean come oooonn, Flynn was mostly a dick to your party in the first half of the game and when he joined your party, he moped about being a dick previously; A BIT TOO LATE TO GAIN MY FORGIVENESS, MISTER. >:T Unless you win my heart or something later, when I finally move on with the game's story)

  • Repede is CUUUUUUUUUTE AAAAAAARRHHHH I'm not a dog person but I definitely love his puppy self more than his adult self lol ;A;

  • GALISTA KAKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
    Apparently he's popular among the movie fans but I couldn't see why throughout most of the movie because he didn't do much besides being ~*~PRETTY~*~ but around the end of the movie, I finally saw what explains his popularity. Without spoiling anything, let's just say HE WAS AT HIS ~*~PRETTIEST~*~ GOOD GRACIOUS, IF PRODUCTION I.G. HAD ANIMATED TALES OF THE ABYSS INSTEAD, WE COULD HAVE SEEN JADE IN THE SAME KIND OF GLORY HE OBVIOUSLY DESERVED GWAAAARRRGGHH

  • And Production I.G. definitely knows how to push mah buttons NNNNGGGGGGHHHHH
    The movie mostly consisted scenes of man vs monsters, but hey, this can't be Tales if we don't get sword vs magic, right? AND I.G. DEFINITELY GAVE US THAT OMGGGG BEST ANIMATED KNIGHT VS WIZARD MATCH EVAAAAAHHH!! I wanna rewatch the movie a hundred times just for this scene sob WHEN'S THE DVD/BLU-RAY COMING OUT ALREADY-

  • The music is quite good, too. Here's a sample BGM that's on Nicodou.

    Now I kinda wish I started playing the game after watching the movie because I already feel like replaying the game when I haven't even cleared it yet.

    WHEN'S THE DVD(ry

    Conclusion: It's mostly a filler movie that answers some questions on Yuri and Flynn's past but not much on anything else, so if you're looking for plot depth in the movie as a ToV fan, you won't find much. BUT it's a very entertaining movie on itself with a good enough independant plot, AND it's very well-animated, especially the scenes involving aer and blastia(magic). I definitely grew fond of the new movie characters and they were fleshed out very nicely, so I'd totally recommend the movie to everyone, even non-Tales fans. :D

    Congrats, Tales series, seems like Production I.G. is the only animation studio to pull off an anime adapation correctly for you! NOW I WANT A SEQUEL! I mean, in the form of a movie, please! Yes, I heard the "sequel rumors", ya guys, no need to rub it in.

    On an unrelated note, they showed the Japanese trailer for the movie "Up" and I TOTALLY CRIED AT IT. ;A; Way to make me cry in the theatre before the movie even started, man! Also, despite the new Macross F movie being a recap, seems like they reanimated some scenes and even added new ones, especially for Sheryl's concerts. AND I LOVE SHERYL CONCERT SCENES so I'm definitely gonna watch it now. Just. uh. I really wonder how they're gonna fit 26 anime eps into 2 hours ;;
