Square Enix Party 2007 Report

May 13, 2007 11:48

My club's party turned out to take up a longer time than I expected... =_=;; (from 9:30pm to 5am orz) Anyway, that aside, here's my Square Enix Party 2007 report.

Blah, I set off early and reached at the gates around 8:45am (15 minutes before gate opening time for those with the Special Ticket) but the queue was still very long so I end up being inside by 9:20am. Which means I missed the very first showing of the Closed Mega Theatre at 9:15am, which meant that if I can't go in the CMT first, next option of 'first things to do at the SEP'07' was to go for Subaseka and Crisis Core's playable demos

Both games' waiting time: Two hours

It was just half an hour after gate opening time, WTF WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE COME FROM!? The queue for the next CMT showing was shorter so I resorted to that (although the queue was still an hour long) while worrying if I'll be on time for the Star Ocean stage or not. (11am)

But first, photos! (By the way, PLEASE DON'T PLUG MY PHOTOS ELSEWHERE! I HAVE LIMITED BANDWIDTH THAT'S NOT EVEN MINE!!)

The gate.

And once inside we get greeted by a Chocobo and the cactus (from the Mana games?)! Aren't they cuuute? :D

Final Fantasy Tactics A2's booth

Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou (Lion Wars) booth.

Square Enix Music CD Shop. There's a "handshake" event (akushukai) with Shimomura Youko over there at 3pm but you need to buy a product that gives you the ticket that allows you to join the event to have a handshake with her. Unfortunately, while queuing for the Closed Mega Theatre, I realized I forgot to go grab that ticket first. Since I couldn't just move out of my line, i decided to go to the store quickly after I finished watching the showings in the CMT. Unfortunately...

The tickets were 'sold out' by then. ;_; *sobs* So I didn't bother (or more like forgot again) to go there again after that but if you guys look at the official Squenix Party '07 photo diary, they have a photo of her there. But they do have this very nifty message board for Shimomura behind the store:

That "Aishiteru!" message kinda made me go aaaww at it. :D It's not on the photo, but I wrote a "chou tanoshimi!!" pointing to the red "Versus XIII tanoshimi ni shiteimasu!!" wrtten by someone else.

Moving on, the manga area of Squenix:

Maybe I was stupid but I couldn't find where exactly they actually sell those books. >_>; *wanted to buy the latest issue of Gangan*

----------------------------

Back to the queue at the Closed Mega Theatre, the outside of the theatre had screens that showed a little preview of the trailers that were shown in the theatre. At least we had something to watch while being bored out of our life lining up for an hour or two for the theatre.

And because I loved Subaseka's preview the most, I recorded it:

And because Youtube is being a jackass and wouldn't let me upload my other video, here's a better view of the right screen.

(EDITTED @ 6:22am)
Someone made a better video of these screens so go ahead to those instead. XD;

WELL THEN. Let's move on to the contents of the Closed Mega Theatre! In the order they showed up...

1. Dissidia Final Fantasy
It started by showing the Warrior of Light fighting, um, that enemy that I'm sure you guys have seen screenshots of. Then they showed Zidane VS Kuja. And the trailer ended with the Warrior of Light about to face off with... SEPHIROTH. XDDD I LOLed at that, I felt sorry for the people who were sitting silently next to me. And ALL OF THESE CHARACTERS SPOKE. Not just battle grunts and all that, THEY ACTUALLY HAD DIALOGUES. KUJA WAS DEFINITELY VOICED BY ISHIDA AKIRA, AHAHAHAHHAHAAH!! OTL (Squenix fell in love with Ishida Akira just like how they did with Uchiyama Kouki? :P) Zidane sounded like he was voiced by a girl while everyone else I couldn't recognize who.

The battle effects definitely looked awesome and what's interesting was that none of them were fighting on the ground. XD;; I think I'll be looking forward to this after all. Would be very awesome if we do get Lightning and Mr. N-- *gets punched for repeating*

2. Monotone

3. Subarashiki Kono Sekai
New trailer, new footages, new arrangement and new BGMs. After their 2-3 min gameplay trailer, then the theme song started playing and the trailer moved on to focusing more on the story by showing us many more 'cutscenes' and voices. MORE UCHIYAMA KOUKI GYAAAAAAA!! His voice is getting older lately. *__* They showed a bunch of spoilers, though. It felt like everyone but Neku will die by the end of the game and they even showed him cry. >_>;; (But I dunno, considering the title, if that really happens, some miracle should happen too, right?)

Anyway, I've gotten fond of the theme song! It kinda felt weird they let us listen to the whole song in the trailer (and that lengthened the trailer twice longer than the other trailers) but it's not that bad. And they're releasing an NDS Lite special pack for Subaseka, yaaaaaayy!!

4. The 3rd Birthday
Seems like a sequel to Parasite Eve. Too bad it's for the mobile phone only. But the new illust of Aya by Nomura is very hawt. 8D

-suprisebuttsecks!- KH new project -suprisebuttsecks!-
To be announced in Tokyo Game Show 2007. Blargh, Squenix needs to stop giving me reasons to go to every big game event that's held in Makuhari Messe. And the announcement spoiled the new secret ending to me! *sobs* I'm still working on trying to watch it by my own hands, dangit! *sob*

5. Final Fantasy XIII
I'm not gonna go in details on what the FF13 games' trailers are like because I'm sure game news sites can give you better insights on them (with their better English knowledge) so I'll go straight to the point.

MR. 33CM'S FULL APPERANCE FINALLY REVEALED!! *__* I could only watch the CMT trailers once this time so I'm completely relying on very shoddy memory for this but here's what I can remember of him:

I'm probably forgetting a lot of things in here, like belts or anything. What struck me strong was that he looked a lot like KH2's Seifer but with longer hair. ^_^;;

BUT YAY I CAN FINALLY DRAW MORE PROPER FANARTS OF HIM NOW WHEEEEEE (not like I have the time to)

6. Final Fantasy Agito XIII
Is this game really for the cellphone!? D8 God damn, I wanna buy whatever cellphone brand this game is playable with because they can handle such gorgeous 3D graphics but I'll bet the phone and its monthly bills will be 3 times more expensive than my current cellphone... OTL I'm amused to see the girl with the dumbell-like-thingy is a Zexion lookalike! XD (She has the emo frindge covering the right side of her face)

7. Final Fantasy Versus XIII
NEW CHARACTER!! I don't care if she's* an enemy, or a rival or a creepy stalker in white but we finally got a new character in Versus! よかったね、靴下無しさん!!もう一人じゃないよ!*_*

Totally shoddy memory but I remember 'her' like this!

After Mr. No Socks kicked the arses of the soldiers outside, he came back into his chamber to find this person in a white cloak (covering 'her' face with the hood) standing in front of his preeecious crystal. So he was like trying to attack 'her' and 'she' was calling forth some magic circles and in the end 'she' trapped him in those magic circles and he trapped 'her' under a hundred of his swords pointing at her. Cliffhanger ending to a trailer, argh! From my memory, it looked like this:

Yeah, you can laugh at the picture. But it was such a cool scene!!

* people say it's a guy but I dunno, looked more like a girl to me despite you couldn't see her face. If Squenix is following their tradition of having the first 2 characters of every game they newly introduce are the hero and heroine of the game, then it could be that this cloaked person is the heroine in Versus. I don't know, this sounds kinda stretched out but it's very possible.

8. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

9. Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII

10. Dirge of Cerberos: Final Fantasy VII

11. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Again, I'm not gonna go in details. *points to games news site* But man, the ending of the trailer was a hard one. D: I haven't played much of FF7 but I've been spoilt rotten on its plot so, the trailer kinda suggests that the cause of Zack's death was kinda different than what I've heard of, unless I'm misunderstanding that scene. But wow, ballistic!Cloud. That's something I've never scene before. 8D; (oh wait, maybe a bit from the OAV...)

Okay, the end of the Closed Mega Theatre!

----------------------------

After that it's the Star Ocean Stage but, uh, Gamewatch made a way better report than me because I was standing waaaaay at the back of the crowd so I couldn't get good pictures. =_=; I'll just put up some anyway:

Namikawa Daisuke eating his scripts because there were just too many of them. XD;; The seiyuus were 'complaining' that the games have way too much dialogue

.
Precis' character design.

After that an all-girls band sang SO2's new theme song and I recorded it but the sound quality of my video is very horrible so I'm not gonna upload it in case people will complain the song sucks or anything. :/

After the stage I made a visit to the Star Ocean Museum, which is actually more like of a Tri-Ace booth. Has a playable demo of SO3 (man, I haven't played the game for so long but looking at the battles on plasma screen sure gives you a different experience o_O Need to replay someday...) and Valkyrie Profile 2, a screen playing Tri-Ace games' trailers, a section of VP2 goodness. I, uh, actually didn't notice that VP2 section initially but when I was idling at the wall outside of that booth, the VP2 section was right behind me and I could see it through the semi-transparent wall. XD; It had a pretty VP2 artwork, concept designs and the character designer's signature. Since I wasn't allowed to take pictures inside the booth, I took it from outside, HAH.

Since I'm sure you can't see the artworks well like this, here's a vertically flipped and bigger version of the photo.

----------------------------

After that I thought I would queue for Subaseka or Crisis Core's playable demo but this time they're not allowing entrance at all because the queue was already too long, WTF. OTL So I was like "WTF am I supposed to do now if I can't do everything I want!?" and decided to just get my lunch. Got myself a yakisoba and a surprise.

CHURRITOS!!!
OH HONEY I MISSED YOU SO ;;__;; I gasped out loud when I saw the food booth selling it! THANK YOU, SQUARE ENIX!!! OH NOTHING CAN EXPRESS HOW MUCH YOU MAKE ME FEEL SO GOOD INSIDE ♥♥♥

----------------------------

After some idling around, it's finally time for the Subarashiki Kono Sekai Special Live Stage. They forced us to watch through all the game trailers of the Open Mega Theatre before being able to see the concert so I got pretty bored for 40 minutes. XD; At least I finally got to see the Final Fantasy IV trailer. Cecil and his, uh, girlfriend speaks! His girlfriend sure... likes him a lot, though. "Cecil... My beloved Cecil... [insert dialogue]" and then repeat and rinse. XDDD;;

Anyway, the concert was pretty short. After sitting through 40 minutes of game trailers, then they finally showed the first half of the CMT-exclusive Subaseka trailer and after that Jyongri shows up, sings for 5 minutes (with some Subaseka scenes showed sometimes on the big screen!), gets interviewed for 5 minutes, and that's it. ..... SO MOST OF THE TIME WAS SPENT ONLY ON WATCH GAME TRAILERS WE DON'T CARE ABOUT? D8 Er, well, I still enjoyed the song, anyway. This time I get to sit around first few rows of the seats so that's why I couldn't take any photo or video of the concert. XD;

(EDITTED) Gamewatch put up a report of the live stage and even has some photos of the big screen, including a screenshot of Neku crying!

And so it's finally 3pm, with 2 hours left before the event closes down. I went back to Subaseka's playable demo but they were still temporarily closing down the queue because of the long line so I decided to try my luck for another go in the Closed Mega Theatre. But they have completely closed the line there because they've gotten enough people for the last 2 showings of the theatre. OTL So I was like "ARGH, give up and just go home already?" but I terribly wanted to try out the Subaseka demo (because Kandou said the party will be the last chance people get to try out the Subaseka demo) so I kept walking back and forth around the demo booth and noticed that people queuing despite the entrance being closed so I figured people probably wanted to be there in case they open up the line again.

And ahahahah, lucky enough, they did open up the line again after that but not that I realized until later that I was actually one of the last batch of people to try out the demo for that day, omg. 8D;; So after 2 hours of lining up, I finally get to play YAAAAYY. The demo was divided into two, to choose to either have Shiki or Joshua as your partner. Each of them goes through a different storyline. Since I've tried out Shiki before, I decided to go with Joshua and omg, he's so ghei. OTL He could have passed as an okama if it wasn't because of his looks...

Neku: We're running out of time, we gotta go through by force!
Joshua: What? But I'm already tired. *bishounen sigh*
Neku: ...........
Me: ...................

..... So. Uh, yeah, gameplay was as confusing and fun as I remembered! XD; Just as I thought, Joshua's system goes a bit like Shiki's so you get used to it pretty quickly (if you've played her before). And oh God, why do Joshua and Beat's combo attack with Neku have to be so ghei!? OTL *feels embarassed even as a yaoi fangirl* (Beat's combo with Neku was shown on the trailer)

Well then, after playing the demo, guess what we get for free!?

HO YEAH, I BET YOU WANT THIS, MAX!!
I BET YOU WANT THIS, MAX!!! >:DDDD *waves the disc in front of him*
It has the new BGMs used in the new Subaseka trailer. A bit disappointing because I prefered the first trailer's set of BGMs more but this disc is still great, anyway, so here you guys go! :D

1. Twister (my fave!)
2. Give me all your love

Aaaand that's a wrap. God, I'm tired now. *has been typing this for 5 hours*

(EDITTED @ 5:22pm: Finally put up full report! :D VP2 and SO fans might enjoy some things in here~)
(EDITTED @ 6:22am: Plugged someone else's videos in the Closed Mega Theatre section and removed my VS13 video)
(EDITTED @ 8:21am: Added a nifty link at the Subasekai Live section)
