Update before Departure

Well, three-fifths of the program is done and I am exhausted. Okay, let me amend that. I'm actually in this off inbetween state of not being completely out of it, but not being completely there either. I know that once I get back to the city, I only have on outing planned for Monday, but otherwise I'll probably be sleeping for a good chunk of time until Jason and I meet up.

The new class of freshman mostly seem pretty cool, and I really feel like I've effected some change. I spoke at several events, and got some really good responses from both parents and students, and I can't lie and say that it didn't give me some form of an inner-glow. It is those moments that have completely recharged me and remind me why I wanted to do Orientation to begin with, what the driving force behind all of it was. I get to help students (and now parents) get accustomed to Purchase, and in this way, help them to understand what the Purchase community is all about. One of my favourite moments about being in college will probably always be doing the Orientation program. Making individuals can leave larger impressions than I thought. Maybe I'm not completely out of wanting to do hands on volunteer-like work.

Working with the staff has been a really interesting experience that has opened me up to consider a lot more things, and look at people in very different ways than I did before. It has also reinforced some of my ways of understanding the world, and has inspired me further to get more work done.

There have been so many bright spots, now that I think about it, that I can't even list them all. But just all you know, they are there.

I'm gonna go off in a few to get ready for dinner--the awesome boss, Matt, is taking the whole staff out for dinner. It even involves dressing up.

I can't wait to come back in the fall. It has a bit of a frightening tone to it all, but at the same time, I'm filled with anxious excitement. New times are coming, and you might as well embrace them.

Toodles, all.
