And we have survived

We've survived hospital visits, and Maia's birthday, and having to have Maia's birthday while doing hospital visits.

We've survived travelling, and dealing with everything that entails.

What we've enjoyed has been the birthday thing...however depressing being at a hospital/clinic might be, we can't sit on the beach and eat freshly shucked oysters at home, so it apparently makes it all okay.

Maia also got to go trick or treating while we were away, which she thought was the greatest thing ever, because it really isn't done around here...so she threw together a fairy costume and had a fabulous time - and she's hoping that we can have clinic stuff happening over the exact same chunk of time next year so that she can do it all again.

On the downside, I've learned that my Grandmother's memory is slipping...and is becoming more apparent then ever. She's okay to still live independently because she has her routine and manages fine with that...and keeps long lists with everything written down so she doesn't forget things, but she still needs to be phoned daily to be reminded about any non-routine events...and it's totally her short term memory being affected...we sat and talked about her dog that died about 20 years ago, but in the same conversation she would ask what her lunch was about every five minutes. So that's sad, but she's still Grandma, and she has no trouble remembering who we all are...and given that she's 87 I figure she's earned the right to be a little absent minded.
