[1] Hirata was born in the year of the tiger, which is also the year 2010. Supposedly, according to this website, each person has a deity who serves as a protector for a specific year. On the other hand, my father has told me that since I was born in the year of the ox (which is this year), I also clash with my own deity, who is supposed to be in power this year. That's why I have my own "amulet" that I carry around, though I'm not sure if that's the reason why Hirata bought one. Japanese and Chinese beliefs on the zodiac system might be different.
