Reading week forces me to do some weird shit

I have a friend who started watching the old BBC mini-series of The Hitchhiker's Guide, so I've been watching along. And man, do I love that series. As much as it is hideously 80s, and Trillian annoys the heck out of me, and Zaphod's second head is questionable, there are really so many amazing things that series has going for it. Simon Jones, David Dixon, and Mark Wing-Davies are are brilliantly cast in their roles.

Also, the costume designer in me absolutely LOVES Ford's costume. It's really one of those outfits that really came together and works for that character perfectly. If I were the costumer for that show, I would be VERY pleased with myself.

I love that it just looks so seventies, but slightly on crack. Like someone who has managed to blend into his surroundings, but is still slightly off. And just the pure eccentricity of it, and how many patterns he managed to get into one outfit. Plus the fact that like all attractive, time-travelling aliens he is wearing white Chucks. :-D

I really have more respect for costume designers who don't go over-the-top and flashy with costumes but still do a fabulous job. I think it's why I love the costumes in MirrorMask so much. They're not too ridiculous, and suit the characters so well.
