Perception of dominance and age.

I've been watching Dexter lately and in it a woman/girl who looks to be in her late twenties ends up having a relationship with this pension aged FBI big shot ( Read more... )

I think Texture is great but i think I wouldn't have liked it so much if I have had to wait a whole week between shows. I find there are quite a few people in it that annoy me, partially the casting partially the writing. The sister is such a ho, as is that awful Spanish lady in charge with her overdone rolling r's. Other people speak Spanish and they don't do that, it's like she's trying to be extra ethnic.

But luckily Dexter himself is a great casting he even look a little bit like that creepy guy from Catpeople and A Clockwork Orange, gives him just that edge of psychopath hehe.

When you get close to someone It's hard to recall what your first impression of them was but age is an integral part of how we perceive people, the same as gender. I think it is harder to be seen as dominant when you are younger because you tend to care more about what other people think, so older people do have a headstart in some ways. But in the end either have to prove it without first impressions to help.
.
And yes that daughter thing must have been akward though ofcourse there are people who love that. I think I like guys who are younger than I am but it would have to be pretty extreme when they for ask me if I'm his mother. At the moment that would mean he'd have to be under 5 (I look younger than I am) In fact some people around me sort of let words slip that indicate subconsciously they don't even think of me as a grown up.

I thought Texture might have had to do with the spell check those red lines get really persistent.

I kind of like how the show is written. The plot and character development goes a lot deeper than a lot of shows on t.v. these days. I do agree that some of them are annoying, but I don't think they all have to be likable. I really hate Debbies partner, and I hated Dolkes. I like Debbie though, even with her swearing and how she is a ho. I think its a front to hide how caring of a person she is, in the latest season it kind of shows more, because the older man which you speak of...well...i am not going to spoil it. The lady with the heavy rolling R's, Batista also does that, i am not sure why they did that, but yeah not a lot of spanish speakers really do that.

IT is true what you say about age and gender, it is hard to say what my first impression was, but yep, I can say that about anybody I am close with. I do think a younger guy would have a hard time being perceived as dominant, I think he would need to uber confidant or something along those lines to be perceived that way.

I got used to being mistaken as his daughter after awhile. It became a joke even. I could see where the appeal would be with certain people though, age play seems to be a pretty common kink.

I know what you mean about looking younger! No one ever believes that I am yes indeed 25. I think I will be thankful for that in the future but now I just find it annoying. Especially when I get rude comments from waiters when I order a beer "Sure I'll bring you a kiddy Guiness" have some class man, ask to see my id, you don't need to be a jerkwad about it.

All that because I was reminded to capitalise Dexter, the lots of capitalisation is a very english thing so I still don't automatically do it most of the time.

It is a good show, which is why I keep watching even when some of the characters are very annoying. In most cases they are swiftly written out anyway. That is why watching them all in a row is so satisfying, don't like the guy she is doing, he'll be gone in the next 5 min.

Debbie is a great character for Dexter to play against. She is so clueless and everything he is not. Sometimes it surprises me she is with a guy though, she often has a strong "dike" aura. Maybe it's the clothes or something. I could do without her having a partner, then it would be perfect.

By the time doakes(?) died I had come to like him enough to hope he wasn't dead. I knew it would be hard for Dexter but he didn't deserve to be thought of as the butcher. And by now I don't understand why no one realises it was Dexter all along, even that messed up guy who saw him kill. Which was a nice bit of writing btw, fun story.

Batista also rolls his r's but he doesn't do it to show off, his sound natural. Maybe I just notice more because rolling r's are part of my native language. She sounds like she learned her r's at school and using them to show off how very Hispanic she is. Kinda like those people who use them to seem sexy and exotic. I also find her very ugly and her nasal sounds further annoy me. But that is a matter of taste, Fran Dresher sounds nasal and I don't mind at all but with the woman in dexter I keep wondering if she has a cold and if she didn't how could anyone tell the difference?

I've never found looking younger annoying, around 11 I may have looked older than the rest because I was a bit bigger but then I just stopped growing and everyone here is quite tall so i guess very soon I was short. My voice can sound very young too but luckily people do take me seriously when they have been speaking to me a while. I don't drink so i have no bar issues, besides here you can drink from 16 still and I may look young but 16 is a bit too much. maybe if I loose the extra weight I can go for that young again hehe.

Hm I did have one time when I ordered a drink with like 1% alcohol in it the waitress actually asked the older couple i was with if it was alright. The guy was very amused by it, the waitresses also asked if they were my parents and he said yes while I said no, further making the impression I was a teenager I think. Though in this case the couple was old enough to be my parents but I was 21.

Older women tend to go maternal around me. I think that does suit my comfort level and personality though so it's okay. And ofcourse with the liking younger men at least I don't look like I'm robbing the cradle hehe.
