Do you know you're an angel? You are, truly. And I love you already, though I'm sure we've never met.
I thought I'd give you just a quick idea of what kind of fan I am, and go from there. I've been writing fanfiction for about twelve years, if you don't count the Batman stories I scribbled when I was supposed to be writing compositions for English class. I'm not known for writing fluff or happy endings, and I don't really read them, either. So, when I picked fandoms for my Yuletide request, I was aiming for the darker side in each one. Generally speaking, I prefer gen and het stories, though you'll notice exceptions in my requests. I don't mind explicit stories but I like plot more. AUs are fine, within the given time period for a specific work. Crossovers are likewise awesome, within the same limit.
So, more details....
Stephen King's It was one of the first "grown-up" novels I ever read. Bill Denbrough and Richie Tozier have competed for my affections ever since. I like seeing Bill and Beverly get together while they're still young, even if that's something It never lets them remember. I also enjoy the idea of Beverly dating Richie, while they're teenagers or maybe even college (though, they wouldn't really recognize each other, you know?). Bev and Ben, post-novel, is an absolute favorite of mine. But I'm also very curious about Stan and Eddie. What was high school like for them? Did It ever really let Stan rest? How did Eddie meet his wife? And then there's Mike. Did he always "know"? Always remember? I like stories from It to be character-driven, with a dark edge - even the happy times for the kids in the novel were witnessed by Pennywise.
Downton Abbey has this growing fandom with a lot of good writers creating happy endings. And that's awesome. But in asking for this in Yuletide, I'm hoping you, dear Yuletide Santa, can dig a little deeper. If you've only seen the first series, then you know how it ends, with England declaring war on Germany in 1914. Feel free to speculate from there - I'm not so tied to this canon that I wouldn't mind you creating a tale of Downton's characters in the war that deviates from it! As I said in my request, I would very much like a gen tale, something that delves into either the war, or life for Downton's residents (upstairs and/or down) prior to the Titanic sinking. It would be awesome to get an idea of the nature of Patrick and Mary's relationship, or Patrick and Edith's. Or, what about Violet Crawley as mistress of Downton prior to her husband's death and Robert's assumption of the earldom? If you do take the characters to war, or you do something set in or after series 2, bonus points if you tackle the world dependent on Downton Abbey. If romance is more your style, I must warn you that I very much prefer Mary/Matthew and Robert/Cora over other pairings.
I just started watching Once Upon a Time and as I write this, I've only seen the pilot episode. But WOW, I really loved it. So I wonder if you might be willing to tell a story about a fairy tale the show hasn't covered yet. A story about Emma, especially her childhood, would be very interesting reading. I also wonder a bit about the Evil Queen/Regina - how much about the "prophecy" does she know ahead of time? There's a lot you could do with this and I would love to see where your imagination leads!
Finally, Boardwalk Empire. I can't tell you how much I adore historical fiction of this nature, with real life bad guys showing their faces from time to time amongst the fictional characters that make the show what it is. Some ideas for pairings, if you're inclined to write one - Nucky/Margaret (there's real affection there, care to explore it?), Gillian/Nucky (I have this idea that maybe Nucky is really Jimmy's father), Jimmy/Margaret (because the chemistry could be like whoa and Margaret doesn't seem above making some kind of deal to save Nucky - or, you know, maybe Jimmy just meets her first), Gillian/Angela ('cause Angela is so wary of Gillian, I wonder if there's something else at play). I'm very intrigued by the politics of the time, too (Nucky getting mixed in with Sinn Fein! OMG! Also, women voting - how are the women of the show adjusting to that?). This season the show really turned the focus on the ladies and how badass they are - want to expound on that? Maybe the federal prosecutor has a story that needs to be told, you know? Anyway, I think that if you offered to write this, you must have some idea of what makes it such a great show. Clearly, you have awesome taste - please proceed as you see fit. :-)
Have a great holiday, Yuletide Santa. I wish I could make you some cookies, because you're already highly deserving of them.
