JJ and Prentiss, Olivia Benson, Buffy Summers, Temperance Brennan, Catherine Willows, Chloe Sullivan. What do all of these amazing tv women have in common?

They all came after Dana Scully.

Legendary Women, Inc. is a grassroots nonprofit organization, just getting off the ground. Their mission is to promote the positive portrayal of females in the media, powered solely by the viewers who love them. They are set to launch their website this month, and have chosen their first monthly honoree to be Special Agent Dana Scully, MD. For nine years, 202 episodes and two feature films, fans watched as she and her partner Fox Mulder asked the tough questions, risked their lives for the truth and each other, and finally found their happiness. Agent Scully is intelligent, clever, educated, courageous, and has set the tone for countless strong female characters that came after her.

In honor of Scully Month, LW is doing another charity drive. They are collecting money for the Gillian-Anderson endorsed Off The Street Kids, (OTSK) but with a fun twist. They are organizing a virtual screening of one episode of The X-Files, plus the 1998 feature film, The X-Files: Fight the Future. For your charitable donation of at least $5, you will receive a link to a chat room in which X-philes across the globe will simultaneously watch the Scully-centric episode from Season 7 entitled “all things”. After a 15 minute intermission, we will then screen the entire feature film. This event will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 8 PM EST.

Over the course of this roughly three hour event, we will have trivia, fun facts, some transcribed commentary from the dvd and the behind the scenes book, deleted scenes to view, even a drinking game for those over 21.

Additionally, we are auctioning off an playbill from David Duchovny’s off-Broadway play "Break of Noon", autographed by Fox Mulder himself. The signature is authentic; we can show you the pictures to prove it. (YES, MARIKOLOGY MET MULDER.)

Additionally, if you donate $20 or more, you will receive a customized Livejournal icon with your choice of screencapture and text.

We hope you will join us and take part in this one of a kind event!

Who is Legendary Women?
Legendary Women, Inc is a nascent nonprofit organization whose goal it is to promote the positive portrayal of women in the media. It started with a fan project, a way to bid farewell to the character of Chloe Sullivan and the actress Allison Mack from the long-running drama Smallville. Fans got together and created a full-length commercial and paid for airtime on Los Angeles’ local CW affiliate. Additionally, they started a charity fundraising drive and donated over $3000 for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in honor of Ms. Mack. The energy and excitement of fans coming together and doing something great was infectious, and a group of women decided to start an organization that could promote not just Chloe Sullivan, but the amazing and awesome female characters that came before her and the ones she will be an inspiration for in the future.

Is this legit? How do I know you are not taking my money?
LW has done two successful charity drives for CDRF, which you can read about here and here. They are a registered business in Alabama, under Jefferson County, with a tax ID number. They are also listed as a business with Paypal. Their 501 (c) paperwork is in progress and should be completed and filed soon.

Finally, marikology knows the the treasurer of LW, legendarytobes IRL.

How much is going to the charity?
100% of your donation will go to OTSK. If you donate $5, $5 will be given to charity. If you donate $100, all of it will be given to charity. It is not costing LW any money to organize this event, so there is no overhead to cover.

I'd rather donate to an American charity, but I still want to participate. What should I do?
If you so choose, you can specify your donation goes to The Feminist Majority, another Gillian Anderson-endorsed site. But please remember to specify this in your donation. The purpose of the event it to promote philanthropy, not the ideology of any particular group, so LW will absolutely accommodate anybody who would like their donation to go elsewhere.

Can’t I just donate directly to the charity?
You certainly can, but this is a charity drive, so they are organizing and collecting the donations to send in one lump sum and asking fans to donate through LW in order to participate.

Okay then. How can I donate?
Please send your donation of $5 or more via Paypal to legendarywomeninc@gmail.com. Because the drive is only about two weeks, we are unable to accept postal mail payments.

Can’t I just give the chat room link to my friends if they don’t donate?
You can, but we are operating on the honor system. Since it’s for charity, we are confident that everyone will be willing to donate to join the fun.

I’m international- will there be an event at a more convenient time for me?
The only one we have planned that we are participating in is the one scheduled for April 30 at 8 PM. We were hoping that having it on a Saturday night would maximize participation for everyone. However, chat rooms do not expire; you are free to organize a group with other Philes and use the room at a later date.

I won’t have time to participate in the rewatch. Can I still donate?
Yes, yes please! Your generous donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated!

I don’t have that episode!
You have a few options:
• You can buy the episode on Itunes (rent for 99 cents, buy for 1.99) or from Amazon.com for 99 cents
• You can stream it for free with your Netflix account
• You can watch it on a streaming website such as Hulu or another resource

I don’t have the Film!
• For US viewers, the film is usually in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. It is also on Walmart.com for $10. You can find VHS copies for even cheaper at used book/dvd/media stores or pawn shops.
• The film is available for streaming on Amazon.com for $2.99, or on Netflix for free with your account membership fee.
• The film is available for purchase on iTunes for 9.99 to buy or 2.99 to rent
• Several copies of the film are available in used condition on half.com and Amazon Marketplace for less than $2, probably $5 total for shipping, but you might want to act on this option right away to get it in time for the event.
• You can stream it from various movie websites but the quality might not be very good and will depend on a strong internet connection.

What about the auction?
The auction will take place during the 15 minute intermission between the episode and the film. It will be a Livejournal auction (comment to bid) so that we don’t have to pay overhead to ebay. You have to be in the chat room to get the link to the auction.

Please go to this post with other questions, or you can send marikology or legendarytobes a private message!
