Here I go Again on my Own...

So the week is nearly through finally, and tomorrow the Barnsleys arrive home to release me from my duties... hopefully...

I have just returned from a dog-walk... WHY... Why did it have to start raining just then? It was supposed to be his long walk of the day and stupidly I decided to maintain that, so i will accept some responsibility. However, I did not MAKE Dylan lie down in three puddles :| Yes, thats  right Dylan, you did that for yourself didnt you! Grrrr... Maybe he just likes being dried off... Anyway, I am also slowly drying off now and the dog, despite seemingly wanting to make my life difficult, is now loyally lying next to the computer desk. I can't believe it started to pour down like that after an entirely sunny morning!

Yesterday, saw me actually take advantage of the weather, as I went out photographing with Owen. We got some good shots, of a variety of different subjects. I finally got up to Ladywash mine, and despite the weather not being entirely perfect for the grotty, grim effect I was after, the moodiness and general mystery of the place seemed to do its job and I think, once they're converted to black and white, there should be some great shots (hopefully... *crosses fingers*). I thoroughly enjoyed trying to pre-visualise what the pictures would look like in B/W and the subject matter being so... eerie and abandoned made for quite an intense session. This was further emphasised when we noticed the old faded "Keep Out" signs on the doors of the main building. There was also a small building which looked suspiciously like a bunker/air raid shelter, further enforcing my suspicions that it was in operation during WW2.

The main advantage of shooting buildings in the strong evening/early morning light is that all the brick and stonework details are picked out. Doorways are also good focus points because of this. The light is very directional and this translated well in the digital shots throughout the trip, which we continued up onto the moors. I just hope my film shots come out just as well... :S I've also tried some portrait work on this film roll and some shots of Dylan, in addition to a Peacock butterfly we found yesterday (this in fact turned out to be our first subject). If there is even 10 good shots out of 24 I will be a happy man :). The heather has also been absolutely gorgeous recently and this was the next subject we focused on, after the mine.

We took some nice shots of this, but we were looking forward most to the sunset (or I was). Unfortunately this turned out to be appallingly bad for such a bright, pretty day. Still, we enjoyed ourselves and it was nice to catch up and the shots we did get (have so far) more than made up for the ones we missed. My only problem is what to do today. K was supposed to be coming over but unfortunately couldnt make it (hence the title) and obviously I'm going to struggle to take photos in the rain and maintain my kit's good health :S

I shall have to think... Sorry bout the rambling on there! Though thanks for reading if you got through it, I cant help it, I just love photography :P...
