Two Days Again...

Aug 14, 2006 11:40

Damn, it must be something to do with being around
joebarnsley that makes me post more regularly or something cos I seem to be posting 2 days in a row much more often :O. Shocking, more crap for you to read and get bored of (ooooo! looky there, I spelt bored right this time >_<).

Anyway this is only a short post to say: 1.) I watched Terminator 2 the other day. It rocked... not much more to say on that really... I liked the soundtrack... um... it wasnt as good as T1... meh... personal opinion...

And 2.) By FAR the most important reason for posting, IRON MAIDEN TRACKS!!!!! Woooo! Now I was thinking of posting about this the other day but never got round to it. Yesterday I realised there were actually several tracks to listen to so I was spurred into action! We have new tracks to listen to (for free) on the Iron Maiden website... And they are freakin awesome!

Different Worlds: Opening track on the new album, and the shortest track on there (yet still clocking in at an impressive 4 mins), this track is a straight forward, no-nonsense, Iron Maiden rocker. It has quite a pace and is suitably catchy - probably the set opener on the tour. This is an interesting track - Bruces vocals are very versatile on here, thoughtful, and soft in places then traditionally long and ringing in others. There is a nice little lead guitar riff, preceeding a killer solo (ok... what exactly were you expecting...?) and the song even opens with a strange noise courtesy of Nicko McBrain! (something like "AI-EE!").

Brighter Than A Thousand Suns: This is a much more lengthy Miden number, slightly slower and, given the album's themes, I think you can probably guess this song is pretty much about the atom bomb. I havent been able to work out the specifics (the sound quality is obviously not up to album standard - thus preventing copying/fraud I assume... though it might just be these speakers...). The song has a suitably grim, dark sound to match the subject matter - a really heavy chugging riff, almost reminicent of Black Sab. Bruce's vocals are suitably dispairing and aching yet accusing at the same time... another good song. There is also a little contrasting quiet interlude before the screaming chorus and clean solo work begins and what follows is a typical IM time change. This is epic, not quite the scale of Pashendale but getting there. Who knows what the longer, nine minute track For the Greater Good of God  will be like...  I hope given the titles the rest of the album is as consistent as these tracks... if so we're in for another Brave New World...

On a final note, the site has been fully updated now with the new theme reflective of the album... 14 days people... 14 days...
