I've actually done something I havent done in ages today, I set out to complete a photography project. Not just ran out of the house in a spur of the moment session like I usually do, but actually planned it all out. The time, the place(s), the themes and the aims all thought out. It was incredibly rewarding and I think I have some good shots (touches wood).
So the time was midday (one of the best times for shooting landscapes - the others being dusk and dawn) and the aim was to shoot some dilapidated, derelict, barns around my home area, with the aim of converting the images to black and white. Many thanks go out to
samegrazedknees for putting up with me for two hours of photo-ing old buildings and many more for putting up with my rambling...
Anyhoo, the stage was set and the plan was originally to shoot 2 buildings, however cows in the field around one of them were getting in the way of shots, so we decided to just walk to "building 2" (but not before I'd taken several photos and an infamous panoramic :P). This proved to be a good move, and in the blazing sun, many shadows were being cast, details were picked out easily and some surfaces (particularly backgrounds) were highlighted - thus making the conditions ideal for black and white photography. Can't wait to develope them on the PC (but can't be bothered now so will save them for later :P).
And the photography themed day continued with hazz and myself attending a presentation with a local nature photographer
Geoff Simpson (do check out the website, its pretty impressive stuff). This was thoroughly enjoyable and he answered some questions for me which was nice. It turns out I can probably use my current camera for some "professional" work after all (well not full pro level but semi-pro) which means I dont have to buy a new camera as soon as I thought, AND Canon are better than Nikon according to this guy. This has ultimately put-to-bed a question which has been bugging me for ages- was my camera the right choice of make and model for me: y-e-s... grand! :)
In other news I got an "equipment required"/reading list from Staffordshire Uni yesterday and it also details several trips taking place in November... Good Points: TRIPS! NEW BITS AND PIECES OF CAMERA STUFF! etc. Bad Points: £360 for the 2 trips... possibly more in food money etc... equipment: ££££s and Books: Could easily be £100+...
Eeek! where's my summer job! :S
