Well, I must say I had quite the eventful weekend. To be honest I haven't actively participated in the Portland nightlife for quite sometime. Between duties at home and with work and just a general lack of interest in being out late (my 7 am mornings seem to get more difficult with each passing year) I just don't get out much, or haven't been out much. But my newly acquired girly friend seems to have made it her personal mission to change that.
Saturday night began innocently enough with playing around with old and new incarnations of The Legend of Zelda on the Wii, but by midnight or so it seemed it was time to move past it and go find somewhere to dance for a bit. We ended up down the street at the local 80's night. I do have to say it felt a bit liberating dancing to bad mixes of The Cure, Morrissey, David Bowie and just not caring, but the highlight of the evening had to be watching the rather large group of people dressed like an 80's prom. Not the Zombie Prom, I guess that doesn't happen until May. But god damn, why oh why, is that Rick Astley song following me around? I have heard it everywhere I go over the last few weeks. Yes, I know about the rickroll, but really it's time to let it go.
We stayed for a couple of hours, wore ourselves out dancing, came back to the house and ended the evening with a round of Red Dwarf and promptly tucked in around 3am. Curse my internal alarm clock, I still managed to wake up at 7 am that morning.
Sunday I spent the afternoon with a couple of old friends that I hadn't seen in quite sometime. It was good seeing them again. We always seem to lose touch as we all get wrapped up in our day to day, and then when I do see them again I always wonder why I don't hang out with them more. We had dinner at a prime rib place we have had our eyes on for years but never managed to go until now. I am enjoying spotaneity a bit more lately. Dinner was quite good albeit a little overpriced. The crab cakes were super spicy and a meal is that much better spent with friends.
Later that evening was spent out at a fetish event downtown. It was entertaining. One thing I did notice after sitting there watching the crowd a bit, that it was almost painfully obvious who was there for the dancing and who was there for the event part of it. So much different from when I actually spent time in the fetish scene here years ago. When did things become so segregated? But the event was fun. They had some fire dancers, some belly dancers as all good shows should have. Got some more dancing in. The music was decent. Dancing to George Michael is always a must! But by 1am it was clear that things weren't going to stay so tame for very much longer. I was getting tired and that 7 am alarm was looming closer. But before calling it a night, we couldn't resist Voodoo Donut next door and left with a rather large box of goodies for a very nice price of $5. :)
Now here I sit with my lovely half of that box of donuts debating whether or not I can sneak in a 30 min nap without messing with today's lineup of events too much. I won't really take a nap, thinking about it is nice though.
