I really don't know how people can be so heartless. Ever since I started volunteering at my cat rescue, I've definitely met some really caring, selfless people who constantly bend over backwards to help rescues be vetted and cared for, who take them off the euthanasia lists at kill shelters, and who personally give them a foster home until a permanent one can be found. But then, there are morons who give their cats to kill shelters (where completely healthy and adoptable animals (the vast majority of which are less than 2 years old and many of which are babies) are killed in a matter of days if no one takes them due to overcrowding). I don't know what the fuck these people think they're doing...
"He was cute when he was a kitten but now that he's bigger I don't want him."
"He doesn't match my new carpet so I have to get rid of him."
"I just got a new dog who doesn't like her so I need to get rid of her."
"I got the cat with my boyfriend a year ago and now that we're not together I don't want any reminders of him."
It's a shame that for all the good people you meet through rescues, you also meet so many people who just couldn't care less about the pets that they have and who take no responsibility for what happens to them the second it's not convenient or fun for them.
