Wed. Night: Rose and Mai's apartment

Maia glanced around the room, she had two dozen pink roses sitting in a vase on the coffee table with a little teddy bear. It was Rose's second day on the job and Maia was so proud of her she could burst. She was going to do something special last night but figured Rose would be expecting it, she wanted to do it tonight instead. Let her come home

Rose opened the door and dropped her keys and bag on the table by the door. "Mai? Love, are you home?" she called out cheerfully.

Making her way into the living room, she gasped and smiled. "Maia! Where are you?" she said, picking up the teddy bear.

Maia came out of the bedroom and smiled. "Hey there." She said walking over to her and putting her arms around her. "Surprise." She whispered in her ear. "For my favorite working girl. I got you pink ones." Maia said with a smile remembering the first time she had seen Rose's bedroom with it's pink sheets. "They only had two dozen on hand, I wanted to get you more."

"You didn't have to get me any," she said, nuzzling Maia's neck as she wrapped her in a hug. "But thank you. They're wonderful, just like you."

Maia smiled and kept her arms around Rose. "We're ok huh? Me and you?" She said quietly against her neck.

Rose raised an eyebrow and looked at Maia. "Yeah. You're not goin' 'round kissin' on anyone I shouldn't know about, right?" she asked teasingly.

Maia laughed nervously "Not anymore." she said wrapping her arms back around Rose and holding her tight. "I don't want to kiss anyone ever again if it isn't you." and she meant that from the bottom of her heart.

"Mmm," Rose said softly. "So there has been kissing?"

She led Maia over to the couch and sat down, pulling her down next to her. "Thank you for the roses, Mai. They're beautiful."

Maia looked at her, her eyes searching Roses before she nodded. "Yes." She started to look away but stopped herself. It was her fault and if Rose's heart was going to break Maia for damn sure was going to look her in the eyes, she owed her that much.

"It happened, so fast...I- it was someone I loved...a long time ago. Someone I thought I would never see again and then there they were. Right in front of me looking like they had never left. I am sorry Rose. I saw, the other morning in bed, I saw what would happen if I continued down the path I was headed. I didn't want it Rose. I didn't want my life without you. The person I kissed, they- they were my past, your my future. Your who I want, who I never want to stop kissing. If- if you'll have me after what I've done." Maia's hands trembled but she didn't look away.

"Your welcome for the roses." She said after a moment swallowing hard.

Rose stared at Maia. "Since we've been together. You've kissed other people since we've been together, and you have the nerve to go off on me about the Doctor?"

Tears filled Maia's eyes. "I-" She didn't know what to say so she nodded. "I'm sorry and it was after you came back." Maia said her throat tight. Don't leave me please God I'm so sorry Rose, please please forgive please do not leave me alone. Maia mind roared above every other noise or image in her head.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She said trying to stay calm, her voice pleading as her hands started to reach to Rose but she pulled them back. She was sure Rose wouldn't want Maia touching her now. "I'm sorry." She whispered.

"After I came back." Rose nodded slowly. "I see. So, because of one kiss -- that quite possibly saved my LIFE -- it somehow seemed to be okay with you to go kiss someone else?"

She dropped the bear on the couch and stood up, moving over to the window. "Maia, I . . ." Rose stopped, unsure of what to say next.

Maia trembled from head to toe, she watched the bear drop as Rose walked away. She sat for several minutes on the couch before standing to walk over to Rose, she didn't touch her she just stood behind her.

"I know and I'm sorry." Maia swallowed hard, "I'll go talk to Ms. Ancilla, about- about getting another place to stay. I'm sorry Rose."

Maia walked over to the couch, she picked up the bear Rose had dropped and sat it back next to the roses before starting to go to the bedroom. She'd pack a bag, stay in the hotel or maybe she could stay with Paige for the night. She was sure she was the last person Rose wanted to see right now and she didn't blame her. She felt like she had just lost Rose all over again like when she had left to go with Jack.

Rose followed her into the bedroom and leaned against the doorframe. "No. You stay here. I'll go. Your place, you stay here. I just," she shook her head. "I need some space, Maia. Doesn't mean I don't love you, and it doesn't mean I'm not coming back. It just means that I need some space, and to figure things out."

Maia hung her head, her back was to Rose and she shook her head. "You have to work tomorrow, your things...all your things are here. I don't want you having to pack up and sleep in a strange place when you have to work." Maia said in a tight voice. "You stay here for as long as it takes, I'll, if I need something, I'll come by here, while your at work." Each word Maia spoke was more heavy in her chest as she said it. If she tried to say much more she was going to lose it completely and throw herself into Rose's arms and beg her not to leave

Rose sighed and nodded. "Right. But, it's still your home too, Mai."

She crossed the room and sat down on the bed, watching Maia. "I love you too," she said softly.

Maia looked at Rose now, she swallowed hard at the words the Rose had said she loved her. She wasn't sure what to say to either statement Rose made.

"Yeah it is, but..." Maia hesitated "It's better for us, if I go, for a while." She said very quietly. "I'll make sure, everything is paid and- and all that so you don't have to worry about it while I'm gone." Maia had to look away, Rose's eyes were to much for her to look into. She talked to keep herself from disolving into tears.

"You'll let me know if- if you need anything. Anything at all." Maia said finally getting her feet to move to the closet to get a bag and lay it out on the bed near Rose.
