How I spent my Christmas Vacation

Sarnia Stuff

December 18th. My parents were in Toronto to have dinner with my brother and his gf since they were going to be flying out to Thunder Bay to see her family for Christmas. Everything was timed well since not only was I able to hitch a ride back to Sarnia with them, but I also got to see my grandparents "on the way" in Niagara in their new apartment, and mottaboy66  got a free ride back home as well. And we were off the road before SNOWMAGEDDON hit. dun dun DUN

Awww birdhouse

I'll grant that there was a lot of snow in the morning, and driving conditions weren't great because of how long it takes to get the streets ploughed, but it really wasn't that bad. I still made it to my dentist appointment, as did apparently everyone else (one of the hygienists was teasing her patients that they shouldn't have shown up so she could have the day off).

Proof that I will model for anything, anywhere.

There are few non-embarrassing moments at Mr Scott's Annual Christmas party, and even fewer non-embarrassing photos. I'll say that there was Twister, several losses of pants, a dangerous dance involving an umbrella, a very catty man in a little black dress, and the annual rendition of White Christmas. That having been said, here's me SUCCEEDING keeping my balance on the Twister board while Clay is cheating off-frame.

Back to Toronto

The issue with going back home to visit my parents and get my teeth taken care of and party with the Northern gang is that it's always a short trip. The day after the party both I and Drew were on the 6:30 am train back to TO. I had staff dinner party to go to, after all, and who can turn down an (almost) free meal at Mandarin?  We younger half of the staff, so to speak, all sat at one end of the table and I really enjoyed myself. Excellent company and so much more food than I should have eaten!

I worked the next few days then had Christmas on my own. It was pretty nice, actually. I finally got through the dishes which had been piling up for who-knows-how-long in the sink, and finished rearranging our Bat-Sweatshop as kesteral  had planned. The new setup gives us a surprising amount of space in the middle of the room... but the table still isn't for eating at ^_^ My main goal for Christmas day and boxing day was to get my hoodies started and finish at least one, since I bought the fleece for them. >_> ...for a lot of them. OK, I got 10 lbs of fleece.

Apparently that's double what I actually will need for these things. Ummm, if anyone has any ideas for the leftovers, I'm listening. Sadly I didn't actually get very far with the sewing. I discovered with the first appliqué that I'm going to have to learn how to use the satin stitch on kesteral 's machine if my plan is going to work, and with that realization I lost all motivation. *sad face*

What I did get done was procurement of a shiny new monitor! Big thanks to Drew, who apparently had one just lying around he didn't need anymore! Check out the before and after *_*

I just took the "after" pic tonight... I bet the empty desk space lasts less than 12 hours, thus kind of defeating the purpose, but I think it's the effort that counts!

I'm not going to show you all the half-price Christmas chocolate and candy I bought from Shoppers. Nobody needs to see what a pig I am being these days.

Family and Food

The 27th my parents were back in Toronto again, this time because the rest of my dad's side of the family were here to visit my brother and I. Everyone got together at the hotel to exchange gifts, and then we went out for dinner at Joe Badali's. The appetizers were good, but my pasta wasn't anything to rave about. It was especially nice to see my cousins again; it was 2 years ago that we last got together. I can't believe Vanessa's 18 and in university already!! After dinner my parents headed home and the rest of us wandered around downtown for a little while, hitting up the Royal York, CBC, and the CN Tower. Which we went up. Because there was nothing better to do apparently ^_^. I really wish I'd had my camera for that. I'd gone up before, but I was so young that I don't even remember it. It was really cool and cheesy-romantic to see the city all lit up at night. I tried to find my neighbourhood, but it was just too far away to pick out in the dark.

I had to work the next day, but the rest of the family went out to the ROM and saw Dirty Dancing. My uncle was soooo sure that I'd love it that he said he'd get be tickets for my birthday. It's never been on my list of "must see" shows, but I certainly won't turn it down if I do get the chance to go! After work, I picked up my sibling and not-sibling and we met up with everyone for dinner and a Second City show. We went to a jazz bar called N'awlins this time where I had the most fantastic cream of mushroom and chicken soup and an almost equally tasty "warm salad". Fraser, Sam, Vanessa and I got a table together, and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't completely awkward (mottaboy66  and drama_freak , you know what I'm talking about). Unfortunately we missed the improv since we dawdled too long at dinner. But I think that was just fine.

Possessions

It wasn't a big year for gifts for me, but that's just peachy, I have too much "stuff" as it is. I did end up with quite a few books. Hopefully that means I'll actually read more!

My mother knit me a lovely cowl. There’s a really neat zigzag patter in it that doesn’t show up in the photo, sadly.

Parents also gave me an adorable calendar

Fashion and design books from Uncle Bruce

Sandman from Fraser (I totally asked him for this)

Cookbook and an as-yet unphotographed top from Sandy’s family. The shirt is really pretty, made by this girl: Gypsy Circus

Devin made me a FREAKING SHRINK RAY!!!!

Also couldn’t resist getting these for myself. Because I need Sandman, and was drooling over dearvicky ’s Sin City book too much not to get my own copy.

Here's to Changes

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, solartempest  did a fantastic job with my Triana photos. He got exactly the kind of look I wanted for these. Really makes me wish I had the time to start on my other Venture projects right away!

New Year's was a blast. I get to spend time with my York friends so rarely these days, what with most of them outside Toronto for various reasons. The Wine & Cheese theme worked out well... exactly what everyone expected I believe hahahaha. I have to say, I'm not much of a wine drinker, but I did particularly like the Naked Grape chardonnay, for what that's worth.

I brought my own party hat, but not my own scientists :(

I don't quite know how I managed to wear the fiesta it in every photo I'm in, because it certainly wasn't on all night.

When I first moved into the cave, I was disappointed that we couldn't have any houseplants (on account of the no sunlight and all...). Then I forgot about a couple of potatoes in the pantry for 6 months.

I'm going to call him Spuddy.
